Religion can mean many things to many people, one is a fundamental set of stories that help teach people how to be a good person. Another is a way to explain what they believe can't be explained in any other way. A third example is emotional support through an emotional crisis.
Any of these reasons to follow a religion is bad, in fact religion as a concept is good. It's the people within those religions and those that represent those religions that turn it into something it shouldn't be.
Now flip that on its head, look at atheism. Apply the same laws and reasoning. How do people who are in a religion look at atheists when they see your comment? They see what we see when we look at a corrupt religious representative. They see some to avoid and discriminate against, see it as bad when in reality it's the people, not the belief, that makes it bad.
