Exactly. It's like how I got my first hard light. I barely ever place crucible and months ago I was in a match just goofing around with friends. Halfway through the match my daughter, who was running around fell down and started crying so I immediately put the controller down and was out for the rest of the match. I think I had maybe a .5 k/d and I get Hard Light as a reward. At that time and since then I barely even touch autos. Like OP said, it's all RNG and no matter how you got your gear, it's all good.
