This is technically feedback, but I'm also requesting to actually have a sit down with someone from Bungie, either Cozmo, DeeJ or hell, put Luke Smith on even. Whoever and how many people from Bungie is not a problem in the least, if you guys wanna come in as a group to discuss this I'm happy to oblige.
Simply put, I'm pushing a point here, and if you can manage to convince me otherwise? You're golden. Bungie has seen my other posts before, they know the kind of person I am at this point and they likewise know I'm very reasonable. I'm not going to bite your head off for disagreeing with me or whatever, but I'm also not exactly young and naive, either. I'm going to expect whoever is disagreeing with me to be able to defend their point, just like they would come to expect of me as well or anyone else for that matter.
That being said? I made a comment elsewhere which I've been told once again like before should be turned into its own post. It was in response to the subject regarding the price for the TTK Digital Download and the horrible reception it got from many players before. The video above that I'm using as the header for this post expands upon a point that I made a while ago that others have likewise put forward. But I think its important to add onto that, that this specific problem stems from an even greater issue altogether, one which was originally the hot topic of discussion back when the Dark Below first released.
_____________________________________________________
Honestly, we already know that Year 1 was nothing more than a giant ass Beta test, developer interviews have even attributed to this. There was LESS in the released game than there was for the Alpha Build for crying out loud. That being said, they still got to profit off of us and we basically spent $100 for an incomplete product that was not worth its price tag. The new $60 TTK Legendary Edition is what SHOULD have been sold a year ago to everyone, and to make matters worse, adding insult to injury is the total lack of compensation for this.
"But you had a year's worth of great memories!"
No, there were folks who certainly did NOT have that kind of experience. It was a giant chore for many, and given that TTK is totally revamping said experience is further proof of such.
"Well, there was plenty to do in the game."
No, wrong again. The majority of this game's playtime was attributed to grinding for weapons and armor, the bulk of which (Legendary Gear) is now apparently being frozen in time with no plans to further ascend it. So quite literally we spent all that money and all that time for nothing. Just a huge waste of time and energy.
"But now you'll be ready for when you play TTK!"
It has already been confirmed that common GREEN weapons will end up replacing our Legendary ones in an hour or so after playing TTK. Likewise, new players are getting a so called Booster that lets them jump right into the new content from the get go. So no, there is literally no advantage or bright side to being a Year 1 player.
"But you'll be able to use those weapons to buff the new ones!"
That's just insulting... We spend how many hours getting these weapons for the sake of straight up sacrificing them for new ones that it will take all of a few hours to obtain? Awesome, yeah I TOTALLY see how that magically makes everything better... (*Sarcasm*)
"Well you can still use the old weapons for the old content?"
Are you stupid? You're introducing ALL of these new weapons that you KNOW people are going to be getting, you're not expanding player Vault Space, and you expect people to hold onto their old stuff that serves no purpose in the newer content for the game? Seriously? No, you are engineering the game to make all of our old stuff obsolete for no other reason than the Max Damage stat being higher which is -blam!-ing lazy as hell. So no, this is not an appropriate response.
"You could always keep the old gear as trophies?"
Don't patronize us. We certainly don't deserve that. Keep them as a trophy how and for what? What reason would we want to keep them around for prosperity? To remind us of how we got dicked around for an entire year like a bunch of ignorant, hopeful assholes praying for the game to get better and instead of you improving it you're just outright recreating the entire thing from scratch and selling something completely different? Because that is what TTK is, that Legendary Edition is an entirely NEW Destiny game which seriously gives no concessions at all for the older players. A damn year long Beta Test where we served as guinea pigs for the purpose of making a perfected product.
"Sorry, but this is how MMOs work."
Bungie has formally declared multiple times that Destiny is not an MMO. It is, above all first and foremost, a First Person Shooter. And like any other FPS game, players don't expect the weapons or armor that they spent the time to unlock and acquire to stop being relevant for the game's future content. If players in an FPS choose to replace their current gear loadout for something new, it is always because of choice and personal preference. Not because it is a decision being forced on them. "Max Damage" should not be a deciding factor for weapons that are of the same tier. (Meaning all Legendary and Exotic Weapons should always be on par with each other, the only defining difference being their various Weapon Stats such as Rate of Fire, Impact, Mag Size, etc. and Weapon Perks)
"It might not be a straight up MMO, but it does have MMO qualities."
Good for them? I don't even know why that would be said, what the hell is your point? Destiny is NOT an MMO. FACT. I don't care what concepts they tried using or this whole Shared World Shooter notion, its not World of Warcraft. It will NEVER be World of Warcraft or any other MMORPG. It is an FPS game. Period.
"Well I personally think it would be boring to use the same weapon for X number of years."
Personal Opinion. You can't speak for every single person and you can't design a game around such a bias perspective. Not EVERYONE feels the same way, and many would rather be given the choice instead.
_____________________________________________________
So here is what this ultimately boils down to. What do we get for being Year 1 players?
Emblem? There are so many others in the game that will swiftly replace this. Same applies for that Year 1 Triumphs emblem as well.
Shader? I don't know about you guys, but I'm rocking the "God of War" crimson shader for my Warlock... Not likely to change that, either.
Sparrow? Its a black version of the same exact thing that everyone else has and its not even as cool as the Time Breaker, sorry to say.
TTK Price Reduction? Considering the Digital Download is $40 for us, assuming no one was foolish enough to actually buy into that $20 cash grab of an apology from Activision (I'm not holding this whole pricing thing against Bungie. Activision handles all that nonsense and its what I've come to expect from the bastards who ruined Blizzard), no its really not any kind of deal for us. Especially when you compare it side by side with the TTK Legendary Edition that new players will have available to them which is basically cutting the cost of vanilla Destiny while at the same time including both Dark Below and House of Wolves for FREE... $40 is a bit much for Year 1 players, and its EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE for people in the UK.
That's pretty much it.
I'm trying really hard to find any kind of actual benefit for having been a Year 1 player, a "Founder" for the franchise. (Case in point, I still have that Founders Emblem, which I never used. Ever. Just sits there collecting dust. Which is likely how these two other emblems will turn out assuming I ever bother to motivate myself to actually kill Skolas)
In an attempt to justify all the time spent playing the game this past year, giving up other things so that I could stay at home and progress my character and get those other weapons I had on my want/need list? Put it this way, I stopped playing Destiny cold turkey not long after Dark Below came out. I just couldn't bring myself to keep playing, and its exactly for the same reason that myself and others have now.
Does Bungie actually respect time investment for this game? Seriously, we had quit, folks. And there were those who really just did not bother coming back to Destiny, even after House of Wolves dropped and heralded Etheric Light which magically made all of us happy again. Because we actually were under the impression that meant Bungie had heard us and had fixed their mistake. That they proved that player investment was important to them as well. And now they are repeating the Dark Below fiasco all over again? Really? Its a slap to the face, guys. It honestly is.
So please. Cozmo. DeeJ. Luke. Anyone or everyone from Bungie. I welcome you to discuss this with me. I'm not looking to bitch at you, I'm not looking to scream or throw chairs. As one of your players, this is a very important subject and myself along with MANY others need to know what is going on with this.
Convince me to stay. Convince me that everything is alright, and that its perfectly ok for me to once again feel like I can trust Bungie.
And no, honestly, the twitch streams aren't going to help any either. Not unless you're going to do some huge shocker that reveals old Year 1 Legendary Weapon and Armor actually continuing to be upgraded somehow to stay on par with the new stuff.

If you're that upset, if you've had that horrible of a time, why continue to play the game? Why not move on to something you'll enjoy more? All sarcasm and lame attempts at internet whitt aside, serious question- if you feel like the last year has been a payed beta, and that the game was so far from worth the money you spent, why are you still here? Why not find another game to try and fill your entertainment requirements? A personal example- I probably have a couple hundred dollars worth of games that I've spent less than 3 hours on, specifically because they didn't entertain me in the way I thought they would. I've never once asked for, let alone expected, a personal message from the developers of the game regarding my dissatisfaction. I moved on. So I really do not understand your point of view and am asking for help in better understanding it.

Edited by Phreezer: 8/14/2015 4:47:02 PMYou do realize that this will be completely ignored right? You're about as likely to get a "sit down" with Bungie over this as you are to win the powerball. Honestly, it comes off pretentious too.. "convince me to stay" "does Bungje really care about time invested".. There are still thousands upon thousands of people who like destiny and will continue to play destiny and after the collector's edition hits with a good price there will be thousands upon thousands more who will begin new. It's just a game dude.. a video game.. That's it. 99% of the buyers of this game out there feel the same way. it's just a video game and the general consensus of everyday run of the mill players that don't hang out on the forums is that it's a game to be played until it isn't fun to play anymore.. then you trade it in or sit on a shelf and start playing something else. Personally I am looking forward to quite a few of the upcoming changes and I am not sweating the new weapons because I believe they'll be better than my current raid weapons. Gameinformer has already said that many of the green guns they picked up out powered their maxed raid weapons. I have a hard time understanding why this video game is different than any other video game that's out there.. play until it's not fun anymore then go play something else. I say the more the merrier when it comes to destiny.. and these changes will bring in a ton of new players. And that's good for everybody that loves to play. I don't want it to be some select hardcore only players club. I know that after writing this I will get flamed, insulted and attacked and accused of being bungie's concubine and that's ok.. I expect it because this is the internet and message boards in general are a conveinant medium for angry and argumentative people to express their personalities in all of their glory.. some people take this video game way too serious. It's just a game.. this is just the internet... and Bungie along with 99.99% of your fellow gamers couldn't care less if you take your ball and go home. And maybe we were all just beta player/testers.. Ok.. so what? We all still put in hundreds of hours playing a game that no one forced us to play. We made that choice to fire up our consoles and play as much as we have.. Why does Bungie "owe" us anything? We paid for a game.. We have all had plenty of time to play that game and decide if it's something we wanted to invest our time in. Those that didn't feel like it was worth it moved on.. those that didn't played.. And that's what people pay for when they buy video games. IMO if you have hundreds+ hours playing this game.. you have no right to bitch about not getting your monies worth. Hell I loved dark siders and I have maybe 25-30 hours in that game.. I have hundreds of hours on Destiny for basically the same price. I don't feel cheated or owed anything. And I think the vast majority of changes that are coming next month will be a good thing. And I don't understand the I played for hundreds of hours but I didn't enjoy it.. I was frustrated. Well.. why did you play it then? That's like going into Mcdonald's and complaining because you don't like how they changed the big mac and telling them the big mac tasted like crap and you know because you've eaten a big mac every day for a year! And then complain to them for changing the big mac into something tasty because if you bought a crappy tasting hamburger every day for a year then everyone else should have to eat the same crappy hamburger too.. There is no logic in this.. If you didn't have fun.. if you were frustrated.. you should have sold the game or traded it in on something else. Simple. Don't like the changes coming up.. Play something else. The whole "I've played 600 hundred hours and hated almost all of it" argument is ridiculous. Not just ridiculous but stupid. If you hated it so much why did you keep playing it? I quit Evolve after less than an hour.. why? because I didn't like it. I thought it sucked! Why on earth would I play it for 600 hours and then attack Turtle Rock because I played a game I didn't like for 600 hours? That would be all on me. I suppose if it makes you feel better to make anonymous posts on internet message boards about how unhappy you feel.. knock yourself out. Just don't expect anyone to fall all over themselves making you feel better. because it's not going to happen. They've invested so much time and money into these changes that there is absolutely no way they are going to throw them out the window and abandon their business model to make a small percentage of customers happy. Most people who buy this game don't care about these changes as much as you do.. and the new purchasers won't even know about any of this.. nor will they care because they'll be focused on the way the game is when they purchased it. Play it or don't play it.. It's just a video game. Don't pretend you're arguing about an important social issue. Didn't like the way it was but still played it anyway.. well, that was just dumb and 100% on you. Don't want to play the video game with the upcoming changes.. Don't play it. Simple as that. Use the only way that actually matters to express yourself.. Use your wallet. Don't give them money if you think they're a bunch of lying cheating money grubbing assmuches.

Dude, i understand your frustration. It worked for WoW It worked for CoD. Destiny is the messiah to replace both. Why would you want sharholders to ignore huge, overwhelming data about a zero-risk return on investment strategy? Plus, an amazing eco model which gets customers to pay twice for the same game in a 2 years product lifespan? Think about it, it's genius. Its like selling a subscription model mmo on consoles! This is the way AAA works.
-
Well said. Great post. My biggest issue is iron regalia and iron breed armor sets. Its from a special event and should be treated as special. I can play devils advocate with just about everything... But when it comes to iron banner armor there is no reason to say no. If iron banner gear had increased heavy ammo and special weapon loader i might be able to squeeze out an argument.
-
AS usual , very long very thought out post. I concur with most points. Trophies are pointless, unless you have somewhere to store them, or somewhere to display them, which we do not. I see everyone making the argument of CoD makes a new game every year, yaeh, but its a choice to buy the new one, and you can go back to the old one and play with all your favorite guns, hell people still even play the original Modern warfare, They need to make a cohesive decision on whats going to happen, and they seem incapable of doing so.

Bump!

Edited by Unforgiven: 8/15/2015 12:12:44 AMBungie doesn't owe you any explanations. No offense meant by that just simple truth. You cannot trash Bungie in your videos and then expect them to sit down with you. Thats not how it works. They already dismissed you as one of those DBobbins guys. Use a simple thing called logic man. The game has MMO elements. Doesn't matter what you call it. They made a decision already. Move on. Enjoy the game for what it is. Diablo 3 isn't an MMO either but they are adding Ancient Legendary weapons which are going to be better. Any game that wants to stay fresh does this... Give it a rest already. You might actually like it.
-
I'll just say this. Value is a personal thing. You may value something at one price, and I may value it at another. Personally, I'm okay with spending $40 on TTK. I spent a little under $100 for the base game and both DLC's. I got around 300 hours in Destiny. To me, that makes the money I spent worth it. With the amount of content being added in TTK, I personally feel that the price is justified. If TTK truly has more content than the base game had at launch, than I have no issues with the price tag. This is all personal. I enjoy Destiny. I understand there are those that don't, and the $40 price doesn't seem worth it. It's all just personal, which is why I get a bit irritated when people try to convince me that TTK is not worth the money. I feel like these people are trying to spend MY money for ME because THEY believe that THEY know what's best. This whole thing was mostly irrelevant to you OP. I wasn't really referring to you throughout this. In fact, this was mainly a response to the first part of your post. I went off on a tangent, basically. Anyways, have a nice day.
-
-
-
OP, your opinions are appreciated. Really. But none of what you said has any relevancy to the actual game of Destiny's experience and what it brings to the table. Please note? I had a post detailing out paragraph by paragraph where you failed to recognize the things I know from personal experience in video games for a lot of years now. Moral of this post? Please do not ever make any attempt to sound like you are whining and bitching ever again. Please note that bitching IS defined when I say it. The definition: Bitching- Unjustified and unreasonable complaining. If you really WANT to figure out why I would say such a word in this post? Ask yourself one question: How could your words POSSIBLY be wrong for the 9.4 million who bought Destiny at launch and continued to play it every week for 3 days and on those days played for over 3 hours? Because when you choose to actually answer that with LOGICAL answers? You won't need to respond to this post. You'll have your answer as to why ANYONE would make the decisions which have been made. Don't have enough knowledge to understand it? My college professor years ago said it best: Self confidence to go out and learn about something you don't know is a skill which should always be utilized in anyone's life. It's a skill and not just a moral at that point.
-
I know how you feel, but at the same time you are always going to have the flip side of the coin. As long as there are players that feel, like one of the longest comments on here, that they didn't get cheated out of money bungie doesn't care what the other players who agree with you think. If they have blind followers that don't expect the best for their money in this shriveling economy, they will always have a cash flow even if we stop playing and buying. For those who feel that we are players feeling "entitled", you are the problem. You don't care that you got played for a fool. You're OK with the fact that for about $100 you got a beta like the OP said. Yes we have many hours of game play, in that aspect you are correct. But, if you look at the reason we have so much time invested in this game, that fact becomes less impressive. At this time, the gaming industry has a lack of good games. I can already hear you now...."That's a personal opinion!" and yes you are correct again. That is my opinion but so is the fact that you feel you got what you paid for. Both sides have followers so in this aspect neither is wrong. The problem is, the casual gamer is being catered to more than the "hardcore" if you wanna label us all that. While we always play this game, you jump on a couple times a month. Now there's nothing wrong with that but don't say our opinions are wrong if you're not here for the long haul. We are pointing out flaws in a game that would make the experience better for all but those comfortable just jumping on and playing it like it is prevent that. All in all, bungie cant please everyone but now they don't even try and that is wrong. Like the OP said, I've been here since the beta. Do i feel cheated? Yes. Do i feel that year one was a waste? Yes, very much. Is it fair that all new gamers are getting everything and more that i paid for for a fraction of the price? HELL NO! But because bungie has people willing to accept being screwed over, we will never see justice. I am entitled to what I paid for. If you don't like my opinion, that's fine. I'm not going to play "who's 'hang down' is bigger" with you and argue points because both sides have some valid points. Problem is being a victim of highway robbery is never a big problem to those who don't realize they were a victim.
-
Another long arsed rant from the house of Malphisto. How about we watch the Twitch broadcasts in the coming weeks which may or may not get your answers and save the bitch posts until then.
-
Heres the thing, you have all the answers to ur questions already, you just refuse to acknowledge them as answers because its not what you want to hear. I highly doubt someone from Bungie will actuallu give you the time of day no matter how bad ass you think you are, because they like all of us who are happy with the game can see that its not the game that isnt for you, its you thats not for this game...
-
Bump. Let's hope bungie have some form of an answer because these are the questions I've also been asking
-
So, what I really read. Was you put way way to much time into a game. Maybe you just need to step back and not play for awhile.
-
Give it a rest
-
Just go away. No one owes you anything. Don't buy future products if you feel this way, but the vast majority disagree.
-
Edited by arcadecrash: 8/15/2015 1:27:59 AMYou get nothing for being a year one player. They don't need to convince you to stay. All your time spent playing was a waste and always will be. That's the game. That's the reality. It's just the tough shit rule.
-
I pre-ordered Destiny, digital guardian edition. Quit playing in October. Tried it again when HoW came out, still couldn't stick with it. I paid 89.99 for basically nothing. There is nothing Bungie can say that will convince me that being a year one player, that started with the Alpha version, that my purchase and time were worth it. All I can say is I'm glad I quit when I did. Now I can maybe pick up the real version of Destiny we were promised when it comes out THIS September...after the reviews.
-
Yeah, it was a waste. I've lost pretty much all drive to play this game now, and as it stands, I won't be getting TTK. I'm not prepared to pay for something with the knowledge that I am being ripped off. So many poor decisions with this game and everything to do with it. Just feels like we were being jerked around and made fool's of while they laughed all the way to the bank
-
-
So good I have to bump again.

Well said. Bump x100
