Isn't that the same as asking if a dog knows it's a dog? Or is he self aware?

Doesn't he have to be able to realize they're seeing their self when looking into a mirror to be considered self aware?

Do you honestly believe that TV networks such as Animal Planet, Nat Geo, and The Science Channel, would be wrong about that being one of the factors that can determine self awareness?
