I'm kind of in two minds about this one.
On the one hand....I've played with guys who have been grinding for months on end to get a Gjallahorn, to no avail. Each time I played with them they'd (like me, when I didn't have one) wish and wish that the VoG chest would spurt one forth or that they'd get one at the end of a Nightfall. Unfortunately for them, they just ended up getting shards (or is that sharded?).
On the other hand, having received a "gallie" through normal gameplay, I can't help feel sorry for the guys who never had the pleasure of jumping up on their chairs like Tom Cruise and shouting down their microphone that they got a "gallie". Oh...the joy that brings to the recipient and their team mates is a very natural high.
The only other things that can even come close these days are the Crux of Crota, Hopscotch Pilgrim or the Ash Factory. It took me about 100 Vanguard Dragon strikes to get the Hopscotch Pilgrim but it was sooooo worth it for its sniping ability in the Crucible.
So...for all those out there who still want a challenge, go hunting for a Hopscotch Pilgrim.

I was a bit miffed. As I started on the Vanguard Dragon playlist for the first time the other night & on the 2nd strike in, Hopscotch Pilgrim dropped at the same time as Dry Rot 32. I got the 32 & not the Pilgrim though. I've seen posts with people that have had to do hundreds of Strikes to get these to drop. The RNG in this game is so cruel!!!

Nice points. I was one of those that when I had it drop off a nightfall for the 1st time (this was the week dark below was released and Omniwhore was nightfall for the 1st time), that I legitimately had ZERO idea that gjallarhorn was the best rocket launcher in the game. It also became a running joke between a few friends that when I played I almost always was going to get an exotic from the nightfall. Never is always the case but my luck with RNGesus was insane at that point in my playing time. Lately I've been trying to run dragon strikes for the Hopscotch Pilgrim. I'm not that huge of a fan of pulse rifles though I have been giving them another look lately. Immensely fun to use but very difficult to master; especially for PvP. So far I did get the snakebite surgeon pulse rifle from a dragon strike which seems similar to a split shifter pro which I may take a look at. But after getting those 2 fusion rifles; I realized I had an OLD Final Rest II from vanilla destiny that actually seemed to outclass them all (insane charge rate and super high impact. Having rangefinder on it was a nice bonus too)

For once a post that makes sense about seeing it drop vs just buying it. I think it will still be thrilling to see it drop despite already buying one, but I do like you point on seeing it drop

I completely agree with you man. The rush of seeing the Gjallarhorn drop for you is practically unparalleled. ...and about that Hopscotch Pilgrim...got it on a random PoE 28 run not long after I began grinding for it. Oh, RNG.....
