OK so I downloaded fallout shelter for Android earlier and I've yet to buy any packs. I'm semi struggling along with several others but from what I've gathered so far I'm not failing miserably. Yet.
I currently have 17 dwellers almost all of them are female and several are pregnant :/ (whoops). Be had 4 raider groups, a couple of roaches and several fires from rushing rooms but noone has died yet so I'm good. Total I have 3 residential quarters, 1 restaurant that's been doubled and upgraded, 2 generator rooms 1 small and 1 large both upgraded, 1 large upgraded water room, 1 large upgraded medical bay, and 1 small lab room.
1. Pregnancies last 3 hours.
2. Kids take 3 hours to grow up.
3. Pregnant women will not fight or be attacked so don't arm them, however give them outfits that boost the stats based on the rooms they work in
4. Although there isn't an official family tree viewer if you attempt to make 2 relatives mate the text "it sure is nice to be with family" will pop up
5. radio stations boost happiness
6. Rushing rooms successfully has a chance to increase happiness
7. Having your dwellers work in rooms that go with their stats helps boost happiness
8. You can assign 2 people to your entrance to act as guards
9. Multiple generator rooms helps boost power overall so it helps to have them on both sides of your vault
10. Kids eat alot so make sure your food spot is full of people with high agility
11. A good way to track your dwellers is by naming them according to their stats
Ex - I have a male with 5 strength so I named him Stuart 5. S is for strength.
I have a female with 4 charisma I named her Carly 4.
12- the higher level your dweller is the higher their overall health is. Use stim packs for basic healing and the bloodbag thing to erase red on their health bar.
Ex - So if you have a dweller that's in combat and his health is falling use a stim, the stim will heal up to the start of the red bar. After the fight use a blood bag to remove some or all of the red bar and use a stim again to heal further, otherwise you'll be wasting supplies
If anyone else out there has this game and has more experience or just needs help feel free to bump this thread and or drop some tips and tricks of your own or how you have your vault set up and the condition of your dwellers. Thanks. I'm gonna self bump this just to help it get going.
Edit - bloodbag = radaway. A wild noob appeared.
Increasing luck reduces the chances of a failure during rush.
When you have access to training rooms, don't fill a whole floor with them as if there are any incidents then it will take time for dwellers to get there and can spread to other rooms which can cause chaos. I usually put two medium sized training rooms and one large sized resource room on each floor.
As a result of his advice I rearranged some of my rooms and found 3 new dwellers at random, I also have a Mr handy. I'm sure encounters are random but I'm thinking of increasing the size of my radio room just to raise the chance of encounters and lower pregnancies. Kids are great but they are sponges on resources.
In case anyone is curious, you can change the date of an iOS device while the wifi is off, and it will actually trick the game!
I had a dweller (one from each vault) exploring the wastes for 33 days. My game kept crashing in the loading screen, so I gave up until the recent patch (with them out there still obviously)
It should have taken another 13 or 14 days for them to return as of today, but I changed the date to september 8th or something, and both dwellers were waiting at the door when I loaded up my vaults.
Credit for this find goes to OP

Just to add that the time/date change works on Android also. I can't say that it's totally safe to do but upon date switching all your rooms timers will be either stupid high or normal. Just rush the rooms with high times to set them back to normal.
Edit # 5(I think) - some complain about not being able to pause the game, I've found that if you turn off your phone and turn it back on and don't open the fallout app it leaves your vault pretty much as is. Time still passes but you won't recieve notifications and your resources should still stay the same. Sure its a tad tedious and inconvenient but it can help save your precious battery and prevent disaster while sleeping.
