Most people who commit actions that could be classified as "purposefully" going against religion are lacking something in themselves. They say that the people who wrote the bible were mad or they'll call great prophets cultists. Even go to the extreme of denying the existence of Jesus.
They do it because they are lacking in something that could be solved by themselves; they also take a lazier approach which doesn't solve their personal problems. It rather suppresses their problems and create problems for others by attacking something that is purely faith based. The problems could range from low self esteem to thinking they lack intelligence. However, the people that take up anti religion sentiments do it only in order to temporary solve their own problems. Always at the cost of others, which is selfish.
So I believe that people who are anti religious have personal problems; they take it out on others by attacking people on topics that are impossible to logically defend. Since it is faith based.
I would be more than willing to further talk to people about my ideas and go more In depth into them. If I knew how to correctly speak English.

TL;DR People who talk sh*t about religion have problems in themselves. They argue faith based topics that can't be logically defended by religious people.

Edited by o_____________o: 8/20/2015 10:35:50 PMThis topic actually holds a lot of truth. If you look at the core teachings of Catholicism and do research on why those beliefs are held, you will see that the reasons are sound and that obeying the 10 commandments (as well as following jesus') can only lead to good things. But because evil was committed in the church's name hundreds of years ago, secularists only focus on that and ignore the fact that those who committed evil were not following Christ's example. And yes, there is a lot of truth to the notion that people use religion as a scapegoat. Why? Because Atheism has no moral system. The common argument is that morality is written into our genes, or that morality is a trend, or that morality is subjective. In other words, morality is constantly shifting, according to them. What they fail to realize is that by not having a foundational belief system rooted in truth, they allow society to crumble. When this happens, what do they do? They look for an organization or a people to blame and this happens to be religion. And I suspect many of them do have insecurities. I have a cousin in California who often posts inflammatory bait on his Facebook about how religion ruins the world and hinders science. When confronted with the fact that the Catholic church pretty much pioneered modern science, he tries to find something else to pin on them. This is the kind of guy who posts memes about using logic and about science. It seems like he changes is profile picture very other day, often times to the aforementioned memes. He likes the idea of logic, but he doesn't practice it. There is definitely a void in his life and the lives of those like him. But the best thing we can do is not to say "I am holier than thou", but to do what Jesus said and love our neighbors as he loved us. Lead by example and don't expect acknowledgment for your piety or generosity.

I'm anti religion because I think it's all just made up. I wouldn't mind that in itself, but unfortunately it often teaches people things that cause them to mistreat other people. If people are going to use obvious falsehoods to make important decisions that affect other people negatively, then I feel I should try to reason them out of those beliefs.

You should have your own TV show.....Because nobody really gives a hoot what some anonymous internet console gamer thinks.

So anyone who criticise religion just has personal problems? That's one way to gloss over their logic in favor of attacking them personally. And those people are unfair because they use logic to criticize faith, which can't defend itself against logic? That should tell you something.

I used to be pro religion but I slowly began to see that there were a shit ton of holes in the reasoning behind it. Ultimately I kinda destroyed my own desire to want to be tied down to someone else's construct. That doesn't mean I don't believe there's a God. I just think it's crazy that people will say that "you must do what I do, live how I live, become what I am to get into heaven". It's like they are making themselves God by trying to shape their followers into moral robots that they programmed. Basically a lot of our laws are based off the 10 commandments. Yes killing is bad. Stealing is bad. Letting your lust go unchecked is bad. Most of us aren't law breakers so what more do you ask of us? To let go of our selves and become what you're trying to be?

I'm anti-religion because religion is a system built by the powerful to manipulate faith to control the masses through fear. I'm much happier without it. I'm not only an atheist, but also an existential nihilist, which means I think humans have no inherent purpose in the Universe, we are a random freak occurrence. That being said, I fully believe we create our own purpose, and mine is just to live as happy and fulfilling a life as I can. I also have stronger morals than most religious people because I try to be a good person simply because I believe in kindness to my fellow humans, while religious people tend to try to be a good person out of fear of eternal damnation, or longing for divine reward.

Maybe us atheists just can't grasp how someone could believe in fairy tales without anything even remotely close evidence. "Believe this because I do and I say you should, too" We just don't understand how someone could be so stupid.
