Listen for a splatter-like sound. That means it was a headshot. Anything else is a body shot.

One shot with no headshot splatter indicates final round. Watch for the reload right after they shoot too.

If they see the guardian reload after the kill?

I always reload to prep for my next encounter. That's not a good indicator. But I believe it does make a distinct sound if it's a headshot.

Im pretty sure there is a different sound when you get hit in the head too
