If we have gained more then 20 levels worth of experience since we hit our original level 20 will we still need to level up 20 more levels? On destiny tracker I'm prestige level 101 so would I go straight to 40?

It's basically been confirmed that whatever light level you have achieved will become your new experience level, so if your level 32 now you'll be a level 32 when TTK drops. It was in an IGN interview, and it's worth noting that deej didn't fully clarify, plus all that was still subject to change then, but they did confirm you wouldn't drop down to level 20.
