from what I saw or could tell though it seems like you have to buy the newer more powerful versions of your exotics using glimmer/legendary marks. so you have them unlocked but it's not so simple to upgrade to them.
edit: also not all year ones had an upgraded version :(
on the infusions he said you use a more powerful weapon to upgrade the one you want also. so a 190 to upgrade a 180 not the other way around.

So then how do you get the 190 to upgrade the 180 hmm? Didn't think that one through did ya

Its base better than the other one when you get it. Lol. Say you find a 180 then you find a 190 or 200. Not all legendary guns are 180 base from what they showed. That seems to be the lower end or lowest

Its for if you [i]like[/i] the 180 weapon. Then you use that 190 to upgrade that 180.
