It is fair and logical. In these type of games, weapons/gear are rarely, if at all , ever allowed to keep ascending with the game's level increases. They are useful for a certain time, but when the game increases levels, those weapons become obsolete and are replaced by new weapons. Which is great for us players cause it forces the devs to create new ones. The fact they are ascending some of them at all is a good thing.
The issue you and others are having with this is that you're scared the weapons you like using wont be one of the ones picked to ascend. That's something yall have to get over. Prime ex: gally. I like using gally as much as the next guardian, but i'm excitedly waiting/hoping for the day it's not the go to weapon cause the game's levels have passed it by. That means there are newer (and hopefully better) weapons in the game we can use.

The illogical part is the cherry picking of old weapons. It is kind of a slap in the facenter to bring a few of our beloved guns, but not all of them. And unlike Legendaries, each Exotic had a unique purpose and ability that could only be found in that specific gun.

I love my monte carlow, all three of them!!!

No, it's perfectly logical. Some exotics were too powerful, overused, or (likely) had perks that overlapped with new exotics. So, they decided to leave them behind for the sake of game balance.
-
Exactly though... cherry picking what is a "Community favorite". And not all exotics they are leaving behind are overpowered, either.
-
You keep saying cherry picking, but I don't think you know what it means. They're just good old picking. I also gave three possible reasons, you argued with one.

Perhaps. I'm not trying to complain/hate; I'm just not too fond of how they proceeded with this. I'll accept what they do, I'm just trying to explain why I believe the system is a little odd. I'm sorry if I come off as something I shouldn't be,.

Fair enough.
