Does it matter when or which version of the Taken King that I buy to get my Year One things?

What about to be VIP, heard I had to buy in the next couple weeks

You have to hit light level 30 before August 31st. OR Have purchased both DLC's. Those are the only two criteria for getting the VIP stuff.
