In most MMOs and RPGs for that matter, you almost always get better gear when an expansion comes out. If you could always upgrade your old stuff, then there would be any reason to grind for new gear.
Gally will still be good for Y1 content, but I'm ready for the next OP weapon.

That would be ok with legendary stuff. But when u have 6 exotics that can be used and not bringing them back them thats a problem.
