This is how a lot of games work? I don't know many games that release dlc a year into its life that make all of its current gear utterly obsolete.

Year one gear is for year one content it's far from obsolete, then we move on. Alot of us are happy with it, my point was just because we are doesn't make us sheep, witch is what op was suggesting. But yes other games work like this you may not have played them but this is a thing in certain game genres, not really sure why you made a fuss about that part.
