Wake Up And Smell The Easy Mode

"M-m-muh weapons" He cried as his favorite weapons were nerfed. You guys do realize why Bungie is making everything (apart from a few exotics) UN-upgradable? They're essentially wiping the guns clean and it's OUR fault. Still using that old sniper from TDB that has final round? Not anymore. Still cheesing bosses and being an elitist about Gjallarhorn? Nope. Playing Crucible easy mode and getting the highest K/D in Crucible because Thorn? You wish. Blink Shotgunning your way to victory? R.I.P. Scrub. Destroying Sepiks, Walkers, Archon Priest, Atheon, etc with Black Hammer and Ice Breaker? Get outta here. Am I guilty of these things? Of course I am. Is it my fault? Kinda. I use these tactics and weapons, I'm at fault for being a scrub. I blame others for elitism, but us as a community are to blame for that as well. I mostly blame Bungie for making such OP weapons and then taking their time to nerf them. Taking a lot of time too. Thorn has been dominating for quite some time now. On top of that, you can still glitch Thorn (Never done that before, but was blamed for doing so) Am I salty? A little. Playing against a team of all Thorn is kinda frustrating. Some Hopscotch here and there, but not too bad. I'm so hyped for weapons patch 2.0 and for our weapons to be mostly useless in TTK. Hopefully Bungie won't screw up this time and make a certain gun the next Gjallarhorn. -Opinions are opinions, if you think I'm bad at Destiny and I should kill myself or something similar to that, okay. That's your opinion- EDIT: Hey guys, criticism is great and all, but if you feel that I'm wrong in any way, please point out why, don't just insult me. I promise if you pose an argument to mine in a reasonable and sensible manner, I will reply back and maybe even agree with your points and admit defeat. Calling me names doesn't get you anywhere and I'll end up ignoring you.

I don't think that burning a boss down fast with Gallys, Ice Breakers or Black Hammers is a bad thing. When I'm killing a boss for the 50th time I'm just looking to get him down not make an event out of it.

  • half of the problem (on the PvE side) is not our fault, but Bungie's. They are quick to show us figures on how (made up example) 90% of Raid completions have consisted of Gjlallarhorn multiple times, figures on (another made up example) how many times the Devil Walker has been killed by Black Hammer and so on which suggests that these weapons are overpowered. Look at it in this way... Almost every single boss in the game will do an area of effect damage to you if you get close to it whether it be some shock waves, burning, or even just a one hit melee. This eliminates the use of exotic shotguns. Bosses such as Crota require your team to stand relatively far away from him when downing his shield meaning that people want a weapon that can hit from range without the chance of missing a few rounds. This eliminates the use of exotic heavy machine guns and highlights the use of exotic launchers. See where I am going? Now I am not saying it is impossible to beat Crota without a rocket launcher as it is far from it, but the mechanics in the game just hold your hand and allow you to nuke a boss from a safe distance with no complications IF you use a rocket launcher, hence the high numbers of people foaming over Gjallarhorn. Here is an idea on how this problem could be fixed. Imagine a boss arena where the boss does not do an area of effect attack when you get close, cannot one hit kill you with a melee, and uses an ability to draw Guardians closer to him/her when they try to run away. This immediately allows exotic shotguns to come in to play since you will be able to fight up close without having some kind of bullshit attack down you instantly. The same can be said for Auto Rifles as you will not face the damage drop off. This does limit the use of launchers, but doesn't make them useless. Now that the boss does not use an AoE attack, the Guardians up close can take the attention of the boss allowing another team member to get to a safe distance where the rocket will not cause the player any damage before getting dragged back. Just a little idea off of the top of my head, feel free to add or disagree or whatever but I would like a civil conversation about my opinion/idea. TLDR the guns are not the problem, the in game mechanics are.

      • I'll be honest, I am also guilty but not of doing it. Of attempting to do it though. Weapons like that are great for those, like me, who suck, but obviously they can't just give the people who suck bad a $$ weapons and not everyone. I am also very excited for the 2.0 update I get to go back to fighting for things (and honestly probably failing) rather than actually easily doing things and getting rewards I honestly don't deserve.

      • You make a valid and convincing argument. A vast majority of the community has done everything you laid out, myself included. Yet, the trouble is, as with much of everything, is that the loudest screamers are often the most deluded. We all want the best for ourselves selfishly, yet are irritated when someone else receives the same, and begin making claims of what I call "pseudo-elitism." Everybody wants to be the best but no one works for it and they feel entitled to it. And if they can't have it, well let's whine and complain and demand radical changes. But then do not come back a cry that those same drastic measures you demanded are dropped on you like an anvil. I play this game because I want powerful gear. Plain and simple. When I play crucible, I want those same powerful weapons and gear to be available. And I want the same for my opponents. What will that cause? An even playing field where skill, and skill alone, will be the deciding factor. That way, a player who loves using No Land Beyond can kill as easily as someone running around with Hard Light. The gear and weaponry are equal in power, it's just who is more accurate. The Hard Light player may panic and spray and pray, whereas the NLB player will remain calm and place an accurate killing shot. The opposite can be true. The NLB is wildly firing, missing, and the Hard Light lines up a clean burst of auto fire and kills. Bottom line is, we criticize without taking the time to analyze what it is we are criticizing. We react with emotion.

      • Honestly the most realest thing you could do for the crucible is use nothing but legendary weapons doesn't mean there less good then some exotics it means that everything and I mean everything has there strengths and weaknesses just have to know how to counter and its like you don't have to be the best to get the best but you sure as he'll need to be the best to go up against it haha

        • Its not "our fault". We all use the best tools at our disposal. Regularly doing otherwise is stupid. On raids, PoE and content that has teammates depending on me to do my job, i dont screw around using a khostov just for fun. When im doing missions, patrol stuff that doesnt affect other players, i use weapons i dont normally use. We shouldnt have to use shit weapons in hopes that Bungie wont take away the good ones. I have no intention on using the galley for the next 9 years. BORING But i dont like all the time, materials, and effort i spent maxing out full inventories to just be discarded. Its insulting.

            • Bungie designed encounters purely based off of killing bullet sponge bosses. Bungie also made a game that revolves around CONSTANT grinding. Who can blame anyone for turning to a set of weapons that makes that grind a little easier or kills those bosses a little quicker.

            • I will explain why you're wrong. It is down to bungie to design encounters that the player base would enjoy and not want to burn through. Instead of boring bullet sponges that all do the same thing.

              • Your right. Its our job to play the game not to make it. It all falls on bungie not us as players. If they would have spent more time on game play and fundamentals we wouldn't have to cheese. Or just get really good at game. Due to lack of arsenal in game players get stuck using and doing same things. But all of those who are gonna buy ttk good luck. Year one overall sucked so I expect nothing less. Just glad other good games coming out. I would just pick one up and leave destiny behind

Bad habits and exploits arent going to change with the new META. People have found outliers in every group of weapons from every dlc that outperform other guns in a given situation. Example: Crucible Vanilla Destiny- Suros Regime dominated Patch with TDB- Rise of Thorn and TLW HoW- Hopscotch Pilgrim and Messenger So even if our old weapons dissolve to dust, there will be new outliers that fill thosr voids. There will be some OP guns and unless you have other OP guns to counteract those, then its the story of now all over again. My 2 cents anyways.

                  • I'm in full agreement that Destiny's Year One weapons need to be pushed aside for better, well balanced weapons. Here's the thing, I thoroughly enjoy RPGs. Destiny is an RPG (don't try to deny it, the similarities are obvious), but unlike other loot-driven RPGs, the one major thing that Destiny got wrong, was the reliance on one weapon or another. The game just did not have enough variety for a player to FIND the next best thing. If you look at titles like Borderlands and Diablo, the loot and variants of weaponry, was abundant all the way through to end game content. Destiny Year One had you hit the wall at level 20, before advancing FOURTEEN more levels, nursing the same pistol, same shotgun or rocket launcher. It didn't take long to Squeeze all of the skills out of those weapons. For end-of-game weapons, they were complete after only a week or so of use. Those exotics became crutches rather than extensions of a players skill. Want to dominate PVP? Cheese a player with Thorn. Want to kill that raid boss? Everybody launch wolf pack rounds! While yes, raid bosses take skill and the need to kill them quickly is there, now (especially with Xur's recent fire sale) everyone has a Gally and they're used for the most piddling of boss encounters in the game. Bungie NEEDS to do away with heavy reliance on one weapon and needs to bring in all manner of alternatives. What's more, personally I think people should be more open to trying new things. That is all.

                    • I only disagree with the black hammer nerf. They are taking a truly unique and situational weapon and making it a gimmick. Doesn't really matter though, it will be left behind. None the less, I'm happy for the rebalancing and looking forward to the new weapons.
