I just mean in general. You can actually use Thorn with any play style and have success (including your scenario).

This is true. I'm bad with hand cannons of any type (dismantled all 3 exotic ones :O !!) but if I can sit back with just my VoC or Hopscotch Pilgrim I do much better.
