I don't get the atheists on this pages logic, they believe that the perfectly functioning world and universe and how beautiful and orderly creation is happened all by chance. That just seems idiotic to me

People can say it because there's compelling evidence for it.

People just refuse to be realistic. They don't like to be realistic. People would rather stroke themselves. You know? Oh, they like to stroke themselves, don't they? Stroke themselves, they stroke eachother. They get stroked, they stroke the boss the boss strokes them. Everybody strokes everybody. It's nothing but a big stroke job in this country. The government strokes you every day of your life, religion never stops stroking ya. Big business gives you a good stroking. It's one big transcontinental cross country red white and blue stroke job.

I think the problem with this argument is hat it can be easily reversed. Why would a god create a universe that is literally 99.99% uninhabitable? Hell, 80% of our world is uninhabitable.
-
The universe completely chaotic. This is the only planet we know for sure supports life, and our own sun burns us and gives us cancer.
-
Edited by CB: 8/25/2015 11:37:08 PMExactly my point, only known planet to support life and simply the sun only gives us cancer because we thinned the ozone layer
-
There are so many planets, that some of them are bound to have life. We are lumps of carbon and minerals that act in a very unique way.
-
Why would a god design an ozone layer that can be easily deteriorated by strong carbon dioxide emissions?
-
Irrelevant, Sounds like you are just looking for an excuse to blame him for something that's our own fault, many have done that throughout history
-
Actually I think his comment is very relevant, God is apparently perfect but the fact that it would create a barrier that we could weaken would suggest God is imperfect.

See to me, I don't understand how someone can believe. "I don't understand therefore (insert thing that conveniently explains it all here)" makes no sense to me. With that logic, god just gets smaller and less powerful with every new thing we learn for ourselves. God represents our level of ignorance. The amount of things once attributed to god that we can now explain ourselves does nothing but continually increase. The amount of things we discovered whose explanation went back to being attributed to god is and always has been exactly zero. God is our excuse. It will always be out of reach because we make it that way. As a concept it is and always has been whatever we can't explain at any given time. This speaks volumes for its validity and origin as a concept on the nature of existence. -
How would we even know any failed universal creations? All we can know is our "perfect" universe.

Evolution not chance, single nucleotide polymorphisms (mutations), that over billions of years has let us evolve from single cell organisms into the biodiversity that makes up the modern world. Not chance but random variations in the DNA code leading to differences in phenotypes allowing certain individuals to better exploit (more well adapted) to their environment and increasing mating opportunities increased mating success leading to that phenotype becoming prominent in the population.
-
Evolution acts on chance and randomness. And the mass evolution you speak of has never been observed.
-
Obviously it cannot be observed because the planet is 4.5 billion years old and humans (in modern form) have been around for 200000 years. However through science we have been able to show that evolution has occurred using genetics and fossil records for example.
-
I get that, but it in no way takes God out of the equation. Evolution is nothing more than a mechanism.
-
Right so then hypothetical God didn't create all life it has emerged because of evolution. As I stated in a previous post if you want to say God is the Big Bang that's ok but the evidence doesn't support the stories of the creation of life.
-
God could very easily have guided all of evolution to bring about humans. If evolution as it's commonly explained actually happened, I don't believe that God just let it go however. His purpose was to create humans, so if we evolved here then he was instrumental in the process.
-
You can't have it both ways it can't be random mutations and guided by the hand of God. More importantly why the -blam!- would God create species to evolve to us if his goal was to have humans from the start?
-
I'm not saying it happened that way. I'm saying that if evolution happened it was directed by God. If he used evolution, I'm not sure why he did. He's the creator, I'm sure he had a reason.
-
Evolution isn't real, I could explain it to you but that's a story for another thread
-
No explain it here, there is scientific proof that evolution happens and has happened, so please explain exactly how that it's a myth.
