Game informer wouldn't post something they weren't 100 percent certain about. I actually thought that Rasputin launched the nukes as well before reading the article.

There's no way anybody knows that for sure. Bungie wouldn't throw away the story on the first game.

One of the main reasons people left destiny was because of the lack of story. Knowing that destiny is more than meets the eye can help attract new player or bring old players back. There is still lots to discover about the darkness and the traveller.
