I have, and I'm aware of the technique. But my point still stands. Plus it'll only absorb so many orbs, then your melee is fully charged and you won't absorb more anyway, that is assuming it wasn't charged to begin with. Besides, there are more useful exotics for that portion of the raid anyway, making your point moot.
