You had the patience to do what I wouldn't. If I knew they would leave in a hurry, then I would use your tactic.
I was soloing the nf last night. This guys joins me and starts bossing me around. I let him know he should chill out and try something new. He commences to get hateful. I let him help me beat Omnigul, then kicked him before the rewards.
Moral of the story, don't join someone else's team and expect being a douche bag will not have consequences. Your on their fireteam, have some common decency.

I wouldn't feel bad. I'd send a message explaining the reason though, otherwise the message being sent wouldn't be fully understood. Positive reinforcement works usually, but with dense motherfukers you gotta explain it to them followed by a negative action. Due to their ego. My guess is what he was doing was trying to help in his own way, but has poor social skills. Due to that he came off as he did. It doesn't make it okay though haha, but they still need to learn the lesson. Which is not always a "kind" lesson.
