neither CoD nor Battlefield are TRULY realistic. sure, CoD has quickscopers and run-and-gunners, while battlefield lets you revive teammates who have been shot in the head with a .50 cal using Defibrillators. I've played both, and neither really tickled my fancy.
the general consensus for CoD is that it's "golden age" was WAW, MW2 and Black Ops, everything after that is considered stale. the one for battlefield is that Bad Company 2 was the Golden age, and the ones after were "meh"
as for military games being set in the future, I agree it's a bit boring now. hopefully with Mad Max and Fallout 4, we might see Post-Apocalyptic themes become the new head genre.
