Today's youth are at an all time high for productivity and intelligence, especially compared to that generation's parents or grandparents. The only reason that it is performed that today's youth are not as well off as the previous ones is because social media and the fact that everyone has a camera has given people the opportunity to see everyone at their lowest, you could not do this previously. It is merely the preconceived notion that today's youth is worse than they actually are that enforces and perpetuates this ill conceived stereotype.

Kids will always be dumb, it's just to what EXTENT are they dumb. And statistically speaking today's youth are doing something right because they're way smarter than their parents when they were kids. My best guess would be that it's due to information being more easily accessible to everyone.
