Freedom of Speech does not mean that a person can be as rude and insulting as they want and no one is allowed to get angry with them, or enact social consequences upon them. Freedom of Speech protects you from LEGAL ramifications of your actions, that's it. You can even be fired from your job for saying offensive things on social media. I love how people believe Freedom of Speech means Freedom to be an Jerk without consequence, it doesn't. Besides as I said, doesn't matter if it was a joke, it was offensive.
