Prince Uldren Lives!? (Speculation/Possible (Now Confirmed) Spoilers For TTK)

I agree, Queen Mara Sov will die unexpectedly fighting Oryx

427

I disagree, Prince Uldren Sov dies in a firey blaze of glory

2023

I disagree, and have my own theory on the matter (explain below)

443

At 0:06 in the new gameplay trailer for TTK we see a decked out purple and yellow Hildian Seeker get rekt by Oryx's giant force-push turret-thing. I'm pretty sure that's the prince's ship, since he was supposed to be the one whose ship captured Skolas, and it looks remarkably similar. There's also multiple references that indicate he will die in TTK. -Bungie indicates that "a major character will die in TTK" -A grimoire card in which he claims to "know the feeling" when Eris says "My next death will be my last" (ominous foreshadowing much?) -his apparent shout of rage during the TTK trailer, which is 100% identical to every single "I've been hit!" or "They came... From... Behind!" death in every sci-fi ever. That being said, it'll be a shame if he dies though. If so, Bungie should've made him more likeable, then killed him, instead of just offing him in a cutscene to appease millions of thirsty (not to mention butthurt) teenage boys who will flood the forums with comments about "comforting the queen" and how "Uldren had it coming" and such. Honestly, he was one of my favorite characters in vanilla Destiny. If you read the grimoire you can infer that the only reason he doesn't like guardians is that he doesn't believe the queen should've entered into a costly war with the fallen in order to assist the city during the battle of twilight gap. It makes sense that he doesn't like you when you show up, as most of his friends probably died protecting earth in a war you didn't even know existed (until the HOW grimoire came out, that is). He's also the leader of the Crows (the Reef's version of special forces/recon), and one of, if not the best pilot in the whole reef. His voice actor was amazing as well. He was one of the few voices that actually conveyed emotion, unlike his sister the queen, who is supposed to sound rational, calm, and collected, but just winds up sounding unbelievably stoned. I'd be a little disappointed if they just went and killed him off. There's too much potential to kill him so soon. However: The Queen's death, on the other hand, would shift the balance of power for the entire reef, as Uldren is next in line, but the reef's matriarchal society usually restricts males from positions of power. This fits two of Bungies statements, both their mention of a "big moment for the awoken" and the major character dying. Uldren's scream of rage could also be because his sister just died, and he is *pissed*. It would also allow for more character development, which is both welcome and beneficial to the game as a whole. This only leaves one last detail, whose ship gets KOed by Oryx? Well, to put it simply, all of them, as shown in the trailer where Oryx releases his pulse blast destroying not only the awoken fleet, but his own as well. We've also never seen if the rest of the reef's ships are the same colors, or if only the paladins (the Queen's personal honor gaurd) and Uldren have purple and gold ships. Further evidence towards my theory is that in the grimoire, it is implied that the queen can either directly, or with the assistance of some form of golden age tech, manipulate gravity. When the space battle is taking place, Oryx is in the middle of Saturn's rings. Frankly, he messed up. Upon realizing this, he may have made the rationalization that the only way to stop his dreadnought from being destroyed was to wipe out every single object around him in a large radius, hence the destruction of his own fleet, along with the asteroids surrounding it, and the awoken fleet is just taken out (or forced to retreat) in the process. That being said, this is all inferences and speculation. I'm sure our questions will be answered properly soon enough. EDIT: As a wonderfully resourceful guardian (Toffeesandwich) pointed out below, the ship in question is not a hilidan seeker, but a Ketch (or other large spaceship) adorned with the Queen's emblem. This tips the odds slightly in favor of my theory, as the queen can be seen in one part of the trailer standing on the bridge of a large spacecraft, with three witches (awoken equivalent of warlocks) standing behind her. EDIT 2: New trailer is out, and it appears to show the Queen bad-mouthing Oryx using some kind of telepathy (which is stated to be one of her abilities in the grimoire), then getting rekt by him via some form of soul-rending hive magic. The trailer can be viewed HERE. Please, feel free to post your opinions on it below. EDIT 3: After viewing the full space battle cinematic at the beginning of TTK, I've come to find out that I was right! Sort of! Maybe!?
Uldren and his crows narrowly escape the blast (grimoire states they crash-land in/near the Black Garden), but the Queen and the rest of the Awoken fleet get wiped out in seconds by Oryx's ring blast. However, Mara is shown to be quite powerful, as she is able to summon nine "harbringers" (giant glowy space-orbs), that disable the dreadnought, and outright destroy another large hive vessel. Might Mara have survived somehow? She seemed weak after the summoning, but might she have been powerful enough to have teleported away before the blast hit? Will Uldren and his crows play a key role later on? Looks like we'll have to wait to find out... :)
It looked to me like the queen and Oryx were locked in some sort of psychic battle which she lost (she faints and a light grows in Oryx' hand - possibly her light). Then it looks like he slams the light into his chest - possibly absorbing her light into himself. This might actually stop him and his fleet somehow but it doesn't kill him. Something does stop Oryx because we raid his ship. His ship must be frozen in place or disabled somehow. We raid Oryx, so he is still there in the ship. When the raid is done he's either dead or he escapes somehow. My money is on escape but there are other hive gods out there, so he might die. On a side note: the hive have been the big bad in two expansions. The Vex were the big bad in vanilla. I believe they are both aspects of The Darkness (like the forces of law and chaos in the Eternal Champion series by Michael Moorcock). The fallen and cabal come across like victims of The Darkness. We will probably eventually ally with them somehow to temporarily defeat The Darkness. We need to fully reactivate Rasputin (and any other surviving warminds) and get the Traveler working in the process. My two cents.

    • This is what happens... Oryx goes to another dimension, brings back the Halos from Halo games series... Guardians laugh in his face for bringing stupid metal rings... He activates them... EVERYONE dies. No more Destiny.

        • Honestly I think Zavala is going to kick the bucket. You see him heading out to the dreadnought and the battle but nothing about him after. Cayde is in the tower with Eris and Ikora along with the speaker. I don't want Mara Sov to die or Prince Uldren but if it happens I won't shed a tear.

                  • Uldren wasn't the one who captured skolas. It was his crows, and the ship that gets blown up is exactly like the ones from the cutscene the first time you go to the reef. It's a queens guard that gets killed

                        • I'm hoping Uldren will NOT die and the queen will. (I'm ready for much hated for this comment) Prince Uldren is the ONLY character in this game that players probably have an emotional connection with, sure it's not a positive emotion, let's be honest you hate him, but you feel something and that's what is supposed to happen in a game. The queen? Let's be honest 90% of guardians only want to save her because of "dat fine ass" Uldren screaming could be that he's just seen the queen's ship blow up/ the queen died or whatever, not necessarily his own demise.

                          • My theory Is that uldren dies and the queen lives, before the video shows her fall unconscious, like 30 seconds before that clip shows up, theres another clip where the queen slowly opens her eyes but she is not laying or something like that, she is in a upright position, she probably felt her brother's death and that's what made her unconscious, she could not handle the death of her brother

You keep saying that she's a vendor and all that but her updated story involves only the Taken King. She is not TDB anymore meaning they have either picked someone to already replace her or they are dropping her completely.

                                    • I don't think the Queen or Uldren will be killed off. What reason would there be for it other than shock value? We know little about these characters and they have a lot of potential in the future to become something deeper. Killing them off would be a poor move imo I do think that Eris will die though. She has no Ghost, and Satan is here and Eris DID help us kill his kid. Plus, there was that line at the end of the Black Sabbath trailer where she says, "It is all up to you now", which sounds like something somebody would say before dying, but as I was typing this I started thinking about what would happen in the Tower if Eris died since she is a vendor and a quest giver... shit...

He really did infuse the character with emotion—only it was self-absorbed, emo, "I only listen to The Smiths in the dark" emotion. I disagree about the Queen sounding stoned all the time. She projected the proper amount of aloofness befitting her station. She can't die man!!!
