Marrying someone is a religion thing and if atheist don't practice a religion why can they get married?

Oh, I agree. I'd go one step further and entirely divorce the civil and religious aspects of marriage. Your religion says you can marry four people and a chicken? Knock yourself out. The state should have no say in what your wacky religion can and can't believe. You want to go have a party and then form a civil partnership with your boyfriend? Be my guest. No religion should have any say in whether or not you can enjoy the privileges of civil partners. Just don't expect the state to accord any legal standing to your club's announcements.
