The PS3 only marginally outsold the 360, and it certainly wasn't due to the years head start, PS3 faltered out the gate due to it's absurd price tag. It certainly caught up though, but this is because of its strong reach in Europe and particularly Japan, a market Xbox has failed to breach even a little. But it's a matter of preference, PS3 was more powerful and slightly more reliable, the 360 had a much stronger online infrastructure and a cheaper price point, and arguably a much better controller.
