That's something I'll never understand. Why didn't they start small with Destiny? Even if they didn't have tons of money, they had resources, and beyond that: they had reputation. Why didn't they release the first part of Destiny as a more humble game, with a single-player campaign and a memorable story that would hook players to the world?
Instead, they went "huge" from the get go. Ten year plan. Big names attached. Unlimited money. Would have been nice if they had been able to create the product they wanted, instead of the fragmented easy to consume bits of videogame that Activision wanted to package and sell.
And hey, it seems to be working after all, right? Destiny sold well. People play it. That must mean the formula works. Why make art when you can make this mess?
