--flashback--
Berlin, Germany. 5 months after the parade, and subsequent start of WWIII
*Chelovek sits in an abandoned warehouse with several other soldiers in Obyekt 219 armor in the dead of night. Bombing runs can be heard in the distance, along with the howling of jets overhead*
*One soldiers breaks the silence*
Soldier- "Hey Akulov, you never did tell us how it was when your squad got hit."
Akulov- "Well, I suppose now would be as good a time as ever."
"It was raining and it was about 0130. We were about 300 yards out of Berlin when the first shell dropped 50 yards from us. It rained more, but this time it was blood, flesh, metal, and cement. I knew the next shell could come any moment, so I ran in the direction of the city to find cover. More shells landed 10 feet from me and my IRNV optics and HUD got damaged so I had to rely on my own eyes. I fired my guns at anything that moved and the only way I was able to tell that I was out of ammo was when I couldn't shoot anymore. That was when I came across an old woman kneeling down beside her husband. His stomach was eviscerated and she was desperately trying to hold his intestines in.
I gave them a makeshift burial by stomping them into the ground with my feet.
No sooner had I stomped those old people dead than another shell landed a few dozen feet away from me. More bodies went into the air, more debris, more blood. It all rained back down on me, pelting my armor.
I felt no pain.
I was singing in that rain."
*Akulov stops, and there was a dead silence*
Soldier- "That's pretty -blam!-ed up, Akulov"
"What do you think about all of this, -name redacted-"
Chelovek- War is hell.
