NATO forces had established dozens of FOBs on mars. At the northern pole a supply station was set up to extract water from the ice. For days the plant had had difficulties maintaining contact with the rest of Task Force Trident. Now after a week of zero contact and the pumps shutting down an infantry platoon was dispatched to investigate.
The motorized patrol drove along in their armored trucks. The gunners watching for hostiles. Lt woods sat in the lead vehicle as they speed down the abandoned highway towards the pole.

The convoy comes to a stop and the soldiers dismount. They find that the base is largely intact. The same couldn't be said of the people who worked at it. Alongs side the dead were groups of robotic soldiers, they bore the same damage as the dead soldiers marking that they hadn't been the ones to attack.
