Lately, I've been seeing tons of illogical arguments that christians have been trying to use to prove the existence of God. I haven't seen one valid argument for God, and I'm getting quite tired of destroying the same feeble arguments over and over again, so I thought I'd take the most common ones and take them apart, so that you people can finally stop using them.
You can't prove that God isn't real.
This is a logical fallacy. The burden of proof lies on the person claiming the positive (religious people), not us. If you believe God is real, it's your job to provide evidence. Furthermore, we also can't prove that there isn't a magic green monkey flying around Jupiter, but that isn't a valid reason to believe he's there.
The Bible is proof of God
No. Just, no. Anyone who uses a Bible verse to support the existence of God is insane. That's like saying that a Spider-Man comic is proof of spider man.
Do you really think that all life could have arisen from a series of coincidences?
Anyone who says this needs to do a bit more research. Yes, there were many requirements for life to arise on earth, but you're not considering how large the universe is, and how many times shit has gone wrong. Statistically speaking, the natural evolution of life on earth is very possible, and there is almost certainly other life out there.
Well, science doesn't fully understand 'X' yet, therefore God must have done it.
Just because we don't understand something yet doesn't mean we won't in the future, and to instantly assume that everything is Gods work is a very closed-minded way of looking at things.
It's called having faith.
No. Faith is the intentional suppression of critical thinking skills. It is in no way a valid reason to believe anything.
The second law of thermodynamics states that systems become less and less organized. That means that evolution and the Big Bang go against this law. Therefore, God is responsible for the creation of earth and life on earth
This isn't true. The second law of thermodynamics only applies to isolated (closed) systems. The earth is in no way a closed system. This argument really just shows ignorance on whoever uses it's part.
Theres nothing to lose by not believing in him, and eternal paradise if you do. (Pascal's Wager).
This is a horrible argument for a number of reasons. First, who says the Christian God is real? There are hundreds of different Gods out there, so why not believe in them too, just to be safe? Secondly, do you really think an omniscient God won't figure out that the only reason you believed in him was because you wanted to go to heaven? Pascal's wagers is one of the worst arguments ever. Period.
Note: This next one was actually an argument on this very thread. Try not to die of laughter.
http://thetruthwins.com/archives/dna-results-for-the-nephilim-skulls-in-peru-are-in-and-the-results-are-absolutely-shocking
We have angel skulls, therefore God exists.

This one made me laugh so hard. The link basically just says that the skulls were from an unknown human-like creature, probably some sort of primate. The guy who sent me this instantly jumped from "unknown human-like mammal" to "Angel skulls". I literally can't even right now.
These are only a few of the arguments that I can remember off the top of my head, but I know I'm missing a ton. Post them below, and I'll destroy them and add them to the OP. Help me spread education and awareness to Offtopic, one post at a time.
Purse, out.

Edited by ChunkyBiscuit: 9/7/2015 7:22:16 PMSo, we could sit here all day and argue back and forth about whether or not God exists Or We can just call a truce and let people believe what they want to believe
I personally prefer the second option
Idk if there is or isnt a "god"... It just confuses and amazes the shit out of me to think of 1. Does the universe end at some point or is it forever extending 2. What was the start of the universe or was there no beginning. Also if something created it, then what created that something... And so on and so on 3. How old is the universe if even has an age? Like wtf
most of the time i am either drunk or high when these conversations happen so its even more mind blowing
Y u so butthurt about it

I took a poop in the toilet. Therefore. God obviously exists. How else did I manage to poop?

science always tells us what and how, but never why. so many unanswered questions that science will never answer.

Edited by Beast123: 9/14/2015 6:18:48 AMWow Can't believe people actually waste their precious life juice typing these things Pretty funny lol Makes me feel good about my life
said the guy who read it... But hey, we're not focusing on me!
Let people feel as they want. I choose to believe, you don't. Just drop this shit in offtopic tho. All it does is make hatred spew from everyone, there's never any point in it.

Intelligence is believing what is seen. Religion is seeing what is believed.

Edited by Anti noise: 9/11/2015 1:55:44 PMActually modal logic proved Gods existence over 40 years ago. This was proven by Gödel's ontological proofIt has now been tested and proven further with the use of a super computer by two scientists. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6del's_ontological_proof http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/scientists-use-computer-to-mathematically-prove-goedel-god-theorem-a-928668.html

Wooh! Go Noiseless! Dropping the logic bomb on the Christians!

The Bible was written by a person who said they communicated with God. What a coincidence that no official communication has happened since. Then there are people who say they have. That is somewhat like Ancient Egypt. The ruler said that they descended from one of the gods. So why would they be on Earth then if they would have godly things to do? Conclusion: people who say they've been in contact with a higher being are wrong.

The Earth may not be a closed system for Entropy, but the Universe is. Everything, all reactions, are moving towards a state of less complication and equal spread of energy. Whatever is in the lowest energy state, whatever is the simest. New information (e.g. Genetic material) cannot arise randomly because new information cannot come from no information. A sandcastle doesn't spontaneously form by ocean waves, it must be created. Sure you could say that there are one billion grains of sand in this sandcastle, and all of them arranging to form this sandcastle is one billion factorial, and since there are x amount of ocean waves hitting all the beaches every day than eventually it would spontaneously form. But thats preposterous because the waves only serve to break down and simplify material. If a cell were to be spontaneously put together by all of the random materials at once, it would be somewhere around 1/10^238 power. From the book title "In Six Days" second chapter. Now if all of that material could somehow be floating around together and suddenly form a living cell by combining all at once in mid-reaction and become living then reproduce, genetic mutations would actually cause it to degrade, not improve. Let alone somehow turn into all of the variety of life and ecosystems we see today. I challenge you to study both sides of the argument with an open mind. Some books I recommend are "In Six Days" "The Case for Christ" and especially the Bible. Read these with an open mind and always remember that the world will try to deceive you because the Gospel message causes people to be forced to serve God or themselves and take responsibility. With Love in Christ!

There is no valid argument for the existence of NoiselessPurse's dick

how bout this? the evidence is the universe. we know the universe appeared from no apparent cause and how else could a universe appear from nothing? maybe our universe came from a multiverse? then where did that multiverse come from? it always existed? so you can have a crazy infinite multiverse that always existed but god is out of the question? and there is just as much evidence for god as there is for other dimensions. and dont forget about quantum mechanics where particle locations are based on probabilities and allow for crazy things to happen without breaking the laws of physics, things which some people may call miracles.

I pooped so hard reading this. Thanks NP, you're always there to help me in my time of need.

There are verses in the Quran that have scientific facts that scientists are only now discovering today, or have discovered in recent history. Mind you, this book is over 1000 years old. For example, there is a verse in the Quran that explains the process of human development in the very early stages. It compares the embryo (which I think is the first stage after fertilization. I may be wrong. Whichever is the first stage, it's that) to that of a leech considering they have very similar physical characteristics if you look at microscopic images. There is much more evidence such as the prediction (is prediction the right word? I feel as if i could be using a better word) of headphones.
