The bible proves it's own validity? Well... it was written by people. And Harry potter was written by people... so by your logic, I should try to get into hogwarts and learn magic.
A book proves nothing. Literally... nothing.
In fact, I can use written history from that time period to prove it.
You argue that the scrawny and lazy king David killed a nearly 7 ft tall hardened warrior in full bronze armor, using a slingshot... a pebble hitting a bronze helm... nope not fatal. Wouldn't even tickle.
They're stories bro, fake ass stories to give you hope... nothing more. Not saying don't have faith for the sake of hope, but don't do it so close mindedly

I'm not taking sides here, but David did not use a simple slingshot that you might let your kid play with. What he used could have very well knocked a man out. Think more of a rock the size of your fist being slung around and then thrown at high speed. That's the best I can describe it. He also killed him by chopping off his head btw.

There are 2 main reasons: 1 is the fact that over 400 years, individual books were written by people of various ages, occupations, and social classes, yet the theme is consistent throughout. The second (and more important) reason is the Bible's prophecies. There were many small prophecies written by someone that became part of the OT which were later recognized and pointed out by people writing the NT, not to mention Revelations, which is coming true currently. I do appreciate that you're at least sort of open to faith though.

There are MANY far older religious texts... so that argument is out. As is saying it's written by different people. 1 man could write down 30 names. Edgar Allen POE for instance had 4 alias'.... but hey, what do I know. Fact is it is a book, nothing more.

It's a fact that the scrolls that made the Bible were written at different times. Scientists proved that shit.

1) I never said it was valid because it was old. 2) Technically that might be possible, but that's over-the-top skepticism. 3) You can't just ignore the last part... That's what I said was the strongest argument.

Mayan had prophecies too btw. Even older than christians. And they have all come true as well. In fact many theologists belive that those "prophecies" were added in by the Spanish after finding Mayan prophecies. But hey... what do I know

Bad analogy. While I'm not into Christian beliefs this is a poorly thought out argument. They did a special on npr which went over the details of the encounter and it's validity. If I cared a little more I'd link it, but the summary comes down to this. Goliath wasn't even close to being in control of this fight. Goliath was, in fact, the underdog in this story, didn't even stand a chance at winning. when you math hammer the density of the rock where the battle is claimed to take place and the strength at which David (who was by no means scrawny) could throw the rock the power comes pretty close to that of a small caliber firearm. Slings wreak shit like it's their job. Do the research and you'll see how silly your claim is.
