Don't dismantle your Stranger Rifle.
With Bungie you never know if it's actually a key to a Easter egg.
The Stranger hands it to you. This could be Bungie's way of saying this is important for other things.

Apparently the wepaon was supposed to be featured in the HOW but was left out for whatever reason and kept on the back burner until the taken king drops. It's supposedly upgradeable using the new materials found on the dreadnaught along with some other undisclosed materials and a rare drop from round 3 of the new "public event"
