Your question intrigues me as it sounds like you genuinely do not understand why some of the Destiny community do these types of things. I will attempt to answer your question. May 19th, 2015, a Tuesday. This day marked the drop of the House of Wolves. The Destiny community was a buzz with hype and excitement. I think we can all pretty much agree that for those of us Guardians who purchased the House of Wolves had a great run of beating every bit of it as fast as possible. We got the exotics, we defeated Skolas, we triumphed over the the Trials, we reached the Lighthouse, and got ourselves to Light Level 34. Great times, but soon these events became stale and dull as we defeated Skolas a plethora of times, got up to House of Judgement Rank 16, and hunted the same Wolves over and over. Weeks past and before most of us knew it we could do these missions blindfolded. Maybe some of us thought to change it up a bit by trying to defeat the Prison of Elders by holding the controller with our feet instead of our hands. Then suddenly, it happens, "OMG...w-what is this? Update 2.0? And, it comes with shells of new maps/areas? Something that I don't know in Destiny and can't perfectly draw out by heart using my non-dominant hand? Something that isn't been a part of this repetitive cycle for the past several months? And I don't have to shell out $40/£40 or wait any more weeks to view it?" I'm sure you get the point. Starve a man for a month and I'm sure he'll eat a shoe. Starve a man for several months and you never know what he'll do.
