Even if the government did make it legal, most private companies would still drug test. The stuff stays in a person's system a good amount of days. Good luck getting and keeping a good job if you are a pot head. Ah, I remember the old high school and college days, Lol! Maybe just sit around playing video games and collect welfare? Then you can smoke all the pot you want..................

  • If it is legal dumb ass they can't discriminate against it.

Sure they can. They're private entities, they can do whatever they want. Unless a case made it all the way to the Supreme Court and a decision was made to declare testing for marijuana unconstitutional. Then there are always other penalties companies can impose on employees. Such as higher medical insurance co pays. Some companies already do that to tobacco users, and tobacco is legal. Some companies test for alcohol, and that is legal too!

  • It would though. You really think it would get legalized with protection? Times are changing man and fast better get with it.

  • Most good jobs (not all, but most), are never going to be OK with an employee being a pot head in my lifetime. Granted, I'm playing devil's advocate a little here, because I've seen a lot. I have seen close friends lose six figure jobs they had for 10 or more years because they tested positive for weed. Do I think that is right? No, not really. But its the modus operandi for corporate America at the moment. I don't see big sweeping or fast change. Companies want clean, sober, and efficient workers to boost productivity. Sorry bud, but that's capitalism. Learn to play the game as it is today, whether you agree or not. If it changes someday, we'll all adapt!

  • Have you payed any attention the last few years? How much money did Colorado make this year from taxing it. Look it up and tell me every other state won't want a piece of that. Employers want good workers I agree but your work should be judged on your work not your piss.

Wrong. Companies can set there own standards, there are plenty of companies that won't hire you if you even have visible tattoos on your wrists or neck. Just because it's not against the law doesn't mean it's not against company policy. Someone got fired from my job in the spring for not keeping their beard groomed after being warned.

  • No not wrong. If it is legalized by the Feds you won't be discriminated against. You get fired if you go out and drink?

  • No but you get fired if you come back drunk, just like you would if you came back high. Maybe I should have been more clear, jobs wouldn't care if you smoked so long as you never came to work high.

  • Try that in Washington or Colorado. They could implement a policy saying no Marijuana use during work. Since you can't prove you didn't smoke at work then you can't smoke ar all because you'll come up hot.

  • I feel like more jobs would open up if it's legal. Yeah most of the jobs would probably be more geared towards marijuana in some way but hey it works

  • I guess its all open to speculation at this point. It's already legal in two states, with Nevada getting ready to legalize. Eventually, all the states will probably legalize. But companies will still drug test, unless the Supreme Court declared drug testing unconstitutional. Interesting to see it all play out!
