It's all just political and rooted in social history. It makes absolutely no logical sense that in most places Cigarettes and Alcohol are legal, and MJ isn't.

Yes. Prohibition was an abject failure..it was even instrumental in spurring on a lot of crime that didn't exist before that. Ultimately, alcohol being illegal didn't make people stop drinking. Marijuana being illegal in 2015 in most places is pretty arbitrary and nonsensical.
