As stated below medal score is a much better showing of skill not Grimore score.
Any player skilled or not can obtain a score like mine just by playing destiny. I can hold my own well enough in pve but suck ass in pvp, just not my cup of tea. My entire 3495 score is simply playing the game, completely the story, raids, collecting ghosts, killing things, playing some pvp for the maps, etc.

False. Anyone can play the game and get a medal score. You can be garbage, but if you play a lot it will be high.

Of course you will earn a medal score from playing but the more skilled you are the more medals you will obtain. I do believe the bulk of your medals are pvp related and if you aren't that skilled like me your score will be quite low.
