In today’s news, a Muslim fundamentalist from Dubai stopped lifeguards from saving a young girl from drowning. His name is Colonel Ahmed Burqibah and he's the chief of police in the area. In his view, it was better that she died rather than be touched by the male lifeguards and dishonored. He did this because of his religious beliefs.
How do you react?
A. Condemn the atrocious behaviour of the father whose patriarchal religious beliefs caused him to allow his innocent daughter to die.
Warning: You will be criticizing Islam and a person of color for the sake of a woman.
B. Praise the father for staying true to his beliefs and his culture.
Warning: You will be undermining the life of a woman even though feminism is supposed to be about empowerment.
C. Remain completely silent about the issue and ignore it completely because the rules of social justice and political correctness conflict with themselves in here as they do in almost all situations.
Hint: If you are a feminist, you will pick C because you are a ridiculous caricature of a human being.
-
A, because political correctness is killing the world
-
I'm a feminist and I chose option A. If Islam says that it's dishonorable for a girl to be touched by a man when he's saving her life, then that's a fücking stupid facet of the religion. I may be a feminist, but I'm also an atheist and this is the major issue that I disagree with many of my fellow feminists about. Many of them are so quick to be apologetic when it comes to terrible things inspired by Islam, but yet will criticize Christianity all day long. In reality, all religions are stupid and dangerous, and Islam happens to be the worst of them in modern times. Also criticizing his actions based on religious beliefs has nothing to do with him being a person of color. Being critical of religion has absolutely nothing to do with race. White Christians have refused medical treatment for their terminally ill children based on their religious beliefs, and that's murder as far as I'm concerned. So fück you with your "if you're a feminist you have to choose option C" bullshit.
By this line of reasoning, one can also infer that physicians can't be empowerment to interact with the patients due to one's own beliefs. I chose nothing purely because this is incredibly disingenuous. I'm not sure but this is likely irrational and so is incorrect.
C. Remain completely silent about the issue and ignore it completely because the rules of social justice and political correctness conflict with themselves in here as they do in almost all situations.
Where do you live? We have almost no political correctness. I do not understand this at all.
A. Condemn the atrocious behaviour of the father whose patriarchal religious beliefs caused him to allow his innocent daughter to die. Warning: You will be criticizing Islam and a person of color for the sake of a woman.
Society is merely an illusion. Probably the most rational choice here.

What does feminism have to do with supporting radical islamists? I'm totally lost here.

you're all so toxic, chill out guys.

Edited by ANGRY ASIAN 500: 9/15/2015 10:00:48 PMRelevant quote "Be it so. This burning of widows is your custom; prepare the funeral pile. But my nation has also a custom. When men burn women alive we hang them, and confiscate all their property. My carpenters shall therefore erect gibbets on which to hang all concerned when the widow is consumed. Let us all act according to national customs." — Rhetoric by Charles James Napier (attributed), 1843, during his governorship in British India Life always takes precedent over culture, especially when it's idiotic. I've always hated the concept of honor, especially when it goes against pragmatism and being a decent -blam!-ing human being.

I'm anti-islam and proud
Warning: You will be criticizing Islam and a person of color for the sake of a woman.
...As if I'm gonna give a tenth of a f**k to an imbecile who willingly let his own daughter die. his interpretation of Islam is completely ridiculous anyway. a man who puts his own fairytale beliefs before his own flesh and blood is no man, he is a monster.

Edited by Etzoul: 9/15/2015 10:10:09 PMThe problem with these kinds of cases is that religion practitioners have rights in the eyes of the law. Church and Government ( no matter the country) should be separate.
-
Edited by Autolycus: 9/15/2015 9:53:54 PMHuman life is always more valuable than cultural respect, especially in a ridiculous case like this. I'm pretty sure if you asked the girl whether she'd rather drown or be touched by men trying to save her life, she'd chose the latter. And I'm sure most feminists and SJWs and whatnot would have a similar stance.
-
Muslims: "Our religion is the religion of peace!" Suuuuurrrrrreee
-
OP, you failed completely. Only 4 or so agree with you on "SJW"'s and feminism. Everyone else has said to save her, everything else doesn't matter. So, what were you trying to accomplish here? Cause I think you failed. Epically

Edited by car15: 9/15/2015 9:39:22 PMI'm amazed at how many people are completely missing the point of this thread. I'm not asking you to literally answer the question. Any sane person will obviously choose A. This is a critique of the inherent contradiction between feminism and political correctness. You can be one or the other, but not both.
If you have any self-respect, you're neither.
Her being a female has nothing to do with my opinion, nor does his religious beliefs or color of his skin. It's a person. You save the person. He's the one who made gender an issue. He's the one who made religion an issue. The region it happened in is the reason for his race.
-
Save the life. I consider myself a feminist. By that I mean an egalitarian. But this isn't about that. Stuff like this turns me into an angry anti-theist. Culture and religion aside, SAVE THE LIFE.
-
Edited by Netrunner 2.0: 9/15/2015 9:26:53 PMI dont give a -blam!- about me criticising islam and their bullshit religion. If your religion causes others to die then your religion needs to die
-
How the hell is this a dilemma for feminists (or anyone who is not insane, really)?
-
I hate it when society wants you to be politically correct so A
-
Just because it's someones belief doesn't make it right.
-
A, because that's fundamentalist Islam (aka Taliban beliefs) and I'm criticizing the man's actions, not his color or religion.
-
hey op are you mad
