This is how mmo's work people, FFXIV same way too... Difference is with Destiny you only have to pay the expansion prices and ZERO subscription fees. Let's check an example of Wow's pay model.
Release date retail prices:
World of Warcraft: $49.99
The Burning Crusade: $39.99
Wrath of the Lich King: $39.99
Cataclysm: $39.99
Mists of Pandaria: $39.99
Warlords of Draenor: $49.99
Game + expansions total: $259.94
For the monthly subscription price, I'll assume $13.99 over a 10 year (120 month) period.
Monthly subscription price total: $1,678.80
Grand total: $1,938.74.
From vanilla WoW to The Burning Crusade if Burning Crusade released a year after, would cost...$257.86 including the subscription fees, for ONE YEAR.
What about destiny...?
Destiny to TTK including season pass...$135, or with dlc bought separately... $140
So in short, Destiny is being fair, not just in pricing but content as well. If you didn't buy the WoW expansions, or any other mmo expansion raising level cap, then you don't get to level up, and you were locked out of a ton of content. Destiny is no different, how the hell are they supposed to make money handing everything out? Stop acting so damn entitled.

Please explain at what point in Heavensward was content taken away from people who didn't buy it?
-
Here's why people who didn't get TTK yet are feeling thrashed. It's because Bungie has never went and dedicated itself to calling Destiny an MMO. In fact they've made statements saying it's not. People got this game expecting it to have RPG elements but still be like what console gamers are used to in a shooter. Even though Destiny is almost in every sense an MMO, it wasn't bought by many with the knowledge that one day a DLC would come out that would lock you out of just about all endgame content. Console players are not used to that and many Destiny players are more casual and didn't know because they didn't keep up with the games news. So the frustration is definitely justified because it was never made clear by Bungie that Destiny players would one day need to purchase more content or be locked out.

When did Heavensward take away from people that didn't buy it?
-
You just proved Destiny is poor value. I played WoW for 10 years. So Destiny costs half as much but offers one twentieth of the content, no dedicated servers, and poor game balance. Thanks man! You helped me decide to quit! You're freaking awesome.
-
Did you know wow also gives insane content updates that are not paid dlc and when they do have an actual expansion they drastically change the game while also adding in heaps of new content? I have yet to see destiny give a free content update
-
Umm buddy your WoW prices are a bit off lol
-
Nvm release date retail my B
-
Who is still playing PvE today that isn't a hardcore fan? All new players can pay $60 for $130 of content so they have access to nightfall a but after a full year of playing destiny if you're still playing you're playing mainly PvP, and you don't need TTK for that. And to the people that say that they should get the new legendary gear, no. That's part of the expansion and so giving it out for free would just be bad.
-
Lol you can't compare prices without also comparing quality. WoW may be double the price of Destiny, but in its first year, it still had more than double the content.
-
Lol @ this post
-
People arent only angry at the price its the ****** part where they steal content that you already had its one thing to add new content on with a new level cap its another to steal it away and its you basically payed for 2 new dlcs 40$ for a total of some shitty story quests 2 new now irrelevant raids some shaders and gear that is now worse then what you can buy in the vendors now WOW may have many expansions and a subscription but the content they release far outshines any dlc destiny has released AND THEY DONT ************ STEAL CONTENT YOU ALREADY PAYED FOR!
-
First things first World Of Warcraft is a 100% different type on game and yes the dlc for WoW is not cheers but all the dlc add basically a while new game for wow Destiny took content from the game and said hey let's just sell this shit to people to make more money that not many people have to spend on games
-
for being a bungie sucking desticle defending a really bad business move, gonna have of fukin mute your dumb ass. 1 Destiny Not a MMO, borderline yes but not in same field. 2 all year 1 content should still be viable for year 1 players. 3 Your just a damn idiot for believing every damn thing you hear in favor of Spongie and Craptivision.
-
And honestly if you like the game why not show it by riding along with the new content and buying the expansion, you're funding the game you love and that money is not just going to Bungie, but the future production of Destiny content.
