Honestly, if a player refuses to buy the expansions, why even play Destiny anymore. Any game now-a-days has DLC's. You don't buy the DLC's you are now locked out of certain activities. It's almost like a subscription base. Basically, a player paid $60 for Destiny 1 and doesn't get the expansions......you are done with this game. Move on to something new.

  • I've played too many games that released dlc and it didn't stop me from playing what I already had access to. I'm not saying those games don't exist, but if they do, that's total bull. Care to name any other games that locked you out of activities when you didn't buy the expansions AND there was no subscription fee?

  • You are missing a point here. Having an expansion every 3-6 months IS basically a subscription model. Instead of monthly fees, Bungie gives you new content with a bulk rate. I'm questioning the fact of why would someone that has Vanilla Destiny even still play this game if you are not purchasing the expansions. If the Nightfalls were not a moving endgame content, what do you still have to gain from doing a nightfall?

  • I think you missed the point my friend. Here's why. You cannot say that the cost for dlc is the same as a subscription fee. In destiny, not buying the dlc HAS taken away content from players without the dlc. That's a fact. But those players can still play limited activities. When you don't pay the subscription fee for a game, you can't play ANY activity. That's why they are different. I will go ahead and mention that you were unable to name any game that locked players out of some activities when they didn't pay for the dlc and wasn't subscription based. I used to play call of duty. And that game is as much of a cash cow as destiny. But.......it never locked me out of playlists when I didnt buy their map packs. I could still play the original maps. I was content with that. Skyrim had lots of dlc. Didnt stop me from playing with no dlc. But their dlc was so worth it.

  • Eh. I'm too poor for any of the DLC, but I'll keep playing vanilla if that's okay with you.

  • 3 months, not 1 year. 3 months after game launch bungie started stealing content and blocking access.

  • Either way, most endgame activities move along with the game. Nightfall is one of them. The endgame progresses as the game expands. Whoever bought and just stayed with Vanilla Destiny, already hit the endgame when the new stuff came out. Now your endgame is done. Meaning no point to playing the game anymore. I will say, TTK is a great expansion and the story is now here. Lots to do and has been lots of fun. After 12 hours, I am still working on questlines, haven't hit max light level and haven't don't the crucible part yet. So much content and now a lot of fun finding more powerful stuff. It's kinda like borderlands now. Constantly finding new stuff. This expansion is getting great reviews vs when Destiny came out last year. It was low 70's last year and now hit 88. Def been worth the $40 I paid.

  • you avoided my point NOT 1 year.. 3 months. And you avoided it because it lays bare Bungies abusive terms and foul treatment of customers. 3 months after they launched the game they blocked access, limited rewards and debased strikes.

  • 3 months. Fine. Doesn't matter. As I stated in another post. Destiny has MMO aspects. The aspects are being embraced more and more as expansion are released. Nightfalls, Weeklies and Dailies are endgame content. On MOST MMO style games, endgame content moves along as expansions are released. You still have your base game and featured items like a Raid that is locked to that certain part or expansion of the game. Destiny is not a full MMO, but is basically a subscription based model hence new expansions more frequent than an actual MMO game. People that bought Vanilla Destiny, got to do what they need for their "3 MONTHS". What I don't understand is when this game was released, people knew about the expansions, people knew Bungie had a 10 year plan and these people should have know that this is a progress driven game. If you stopped after Vanilla Destiny, then the game is over. No point to play this anymore since you are not continually paying for the new content and new endgame. This subscription based style games with moving endgame has been around for decades. Not just this game.

  • 1 year later you have gotten to lvl 34 without dlc. You have also gotten many new multiplayer maps and vendor gear. Maybe they shouldnt have given things to people for free.

  • your right they should not have. I would much rather have the game I paid for than a half ass . half locked half blocked POS I have now.

  • Oh my gosh. Just buy The Taken King or move on. You're a very small minority in this community, you have a voice and are allowed to share your opinion but it's clear that Bungie doesn't care and that's not going to change. People that like this game are happy to pay for new stuff and keep going as the game grows...if you're not just move on. Love it or leave it

  • Gary, you may not agree with a lot of this. Destiny had been fun but got old up til and after HoW. Believe me, I am well over 800 hours in this game, I would highly recommend picking up TTK. I assume with these post you didn't get the last 2 expansions, so would be $60 more to add to Vanilla Destiny. TTK is amazing. Def so much better than Vanilla Destiny and the first 2 Expansions. Bungie has fixed this game completely with the 2.0 update and questlines. This is how Destiny should have been when it released last year. Hence the 88 score on metacritic.

  • If they didnt give you that stuff free. It wiuld have been what it is now only worse. So be happy for what you got. I hated both dlcs but still bought them and now i have the new one. If you like the game buy the expansion, if you dont then dont play it.

  • Do you MMO bro? Seriously? This game has MMO aspects and this expansion embraced more of the MMO parts of the game. You are entitled to your opinion, but bashing me for mine makes you extremely childish. MMO games usually are subscription based and have expansions. The endgame is constantly changing and moving forward with each change. If you don't pay for it, you are left behind and miss out on the endgame activities. This is what Bungie is doing. This has been in practice for decades. It is NOT just this game. The OP in this article is confusing "Endgame" with "Feature". The Raids are the feature since they don't change. They stay locked to the main game and the expansions they are released with. Nightfalls, weeklies and dailies are the moving endgame content.

  • I call balls. Bungie did not market this game as a sub model, nor did they give any warning at all that people buying it would lose content and modes of play every 3 months or so... many purchased this game for xmas only to find they needed to pay another $40 for their kids to play it with full access to the stuff advertised.

  • This game was HIGHLY advertised. They said a 10 year play. They advertised the expansions. Expansions are basically a sub-model and expansions are common sense to " if you don't buy it", your current game is basically over. As for the continued argument about loss of content, it's invalid. You can still do bounties, you can still go patrol and run low end vanilla strikes. You can still go do VoG. Nightfalls, weekly and daily were endgame content created for just that. Endgame! Vanilla Destiny reached it's endgame so those activities are gone and moved on to the new endgame.

  • again bollox. this game said nothing at all but REQUIRING players to buy expansions in order to contine playing the parts they already paid to access. stop lying, as of dec 2014 bungie reduced the modes of play and reduced the rewards for strikes , you know this is true but need to pretend it is not in order to continue in your bs.

  • Have you ever played an MMO game? Seriously? I have. Destiny is not a full fledged MMO, but it is following an MMO path. This is a path these types of games have followed for decades.

  • again balls. Bungie sold and marketed this game as a boxed console game for the standard $60. They did not subtitle it with " limited 90 access or sub" In fact Bungie made clearly worded statements saying IT IS NOT AN MMO!!!!! are you going to call them lairs too?

  • Where did I call it an MMO? Saying the game has MMO "aspects" isn't calling the game an MMO. Anyways, I am done with this convo. You don't get it. It is fine. You are entitled to your opinion as I am. This is where we agree to disagree. Have a great day sir!
