Running servers 24/7 cost money. Many company make new games and shut off old servers. Because they cost money.
Leaving you with only single player content.
It cost me $140 so far that equals out to $0.38 a day. I spend $15 a day on smokes.....so......
Also I pay $100 a month for Internet. Which works out to 3.28 a day.....

Many companies maintain servers for several years and manage it without locking people who don't purchase DLC out of the original content.
