Me too, I've never in my life that I can remember, ever played a game, mmo or otherwise, that took content and features AWAY from the vanilla or previous dlc purchases of a game and lock them behind a paywall, or remove them entirely, when an expansion is released.
Even the recent final fantasy 14 expansion removed no content from those that did not buy the expansion, aside from a few relatively minor things according to my roommates (again, according to my roommates, I have not looked into it myself)
Hell the recently released dlc for elder scrolls online is the exact same story, those that did not buy it remain completely unaffected. They simply cannot access the new areas or use any dlc specific gear which doesn't matter because you can get gear outside of it that works just as well I am told.

But my question. What was actually taken? Let's look into this: 1) the nightfall: bungie as said time and time again the night fall is end game material. An avenue for end game drops and difficulty. So this can't be considered taken. 2) The raids? That can't be because I just did those on a sub account. 3) crucible? I must be dimwitted because I literally saw myself playing classic modes that are all available to non dlc owners 4) Why would a non-dlc owner need the new level cap? The level cap for non taken owners is 34 which is more than enough to defeat all elements of the game prior. Poe, raids and the like. 5) How is iron banner locked out from players? It's hasn't drop and the only difficulty is the level advantage which again is an advantage. However, my head do scratch for the trials ordeal. But then again it's a level advantage game mode. All story modes are still intact. There isn't a need for legendary marks because drop gear and raid hear are more then efficient for the non dlc owners. Xur still provides an opportunity for the collection of missing year 1 exotics. So my question is: What exactly was taken?

My thoughts exactly. I understand people are upset that they can't do as much as others, but we bought the right to do the stuff they don't.
