Bump.
Agreed.
After playing TTK I like the new weapons, but there is literally no reason why I cannot ascend my Y1 legendary gear.
It should also be of note that "MMOs do it" is not an argument.
It's an affirmation.
The reason why an MMO does it, is the argument.
If however, there's no real reason behind the choice to leave gear behind (as is the case with Destiny), then it is leaving behind stuff for the sake of leaving behind stuff.
And this is neither logical nor necessary.
There is no harm in allowing me to ascend my favourite weapons.
Nothing would have changed in terms of game balance, if I could still use my Y1 crucible armory.
If I want to use an ascended Zombie Apocalypse in the Iron Banner, let me do that.
If I was there in Y1 and someone joining in Y2 will never be able to get that gun, then this is even more of an incentive to play the game regularly over the years.
But if, in the end, my gear gets reset every 3 months, what's the point of playing continually and with a certain passion?
Obviously Destiny isn't content driven. It's loot driven.
So when you finished the content, what's left? The loot.
When you take away the loot, what's left in the end?
Grind.
Is Destiny really nothing else than a grind reset every 3 months?
Is Destiny's essence, what the game is at its core, only grind?
Is that the future vision you have with that game, oh Bungie mine?
