Destiny feels a little bit like a stealth subscription MMO. Sure, you can play the game only paying $60, or now, $30-$40, but there’s really no way to keep up with things without buying the expansion. With two $20 expansions a year, plus — guessing — one $60 release every year, that means that actually being a Destiny player runs around $100 a year. It’s not as much as, for example, World of Warcraft, but it does begin to resemble a subscription fee quite closely. That’s fine: Destiny is a great game and I’ll pay to keep playing it, but the opacity can be a bit confusing.
