First of all, I bought TTK. But I also think it's flat wrong of them to screw people out of content they paid for. WoW is a subscription-based game and they are totally up front about that so you know what you're getting into. Destiny is not a subscription-based game, at least not in the traditional sense. A better example is ESO, which is much more like Destiny whereas as you buy the game and it's yours (except Destiny isn't exactly "yours" if they keep taking content away). The latest ESO DLC just came out and guess what, I'm not locked out of any content other than the new stuff. I can still do everything I could do before. Again, I think if Bungie were more up front about this, then people couldn't complain. But nobody says absolutely nothing better than Bungie.

  • The WoW expansions will lock you out of end-game activities if you do not by them, by imposing a level cap. That is on top of the subscriptions. Where I think a good part of the disagreement on this subject comes into play is the definition of content. To me, content is the actual standard vanilla presentation, plus the vanilla presentation of each additional expansion. I've seen features to be those end-game goals that showcase content, and as that end-goal shifts, it is inclusive of the newer licenses. It only excludes due to the requirements not being met, which in the case of the expansion, includes the level cap. Right, wrong, or otherwise - the level cap is ultimately what is the delineating barrier this time around. Everything is limited by crossing the bar for the level cap to unlock and progress, and that is what is different between TTK and HoW or TDB. I agree that that could be more demonstrative in it ahead of time, but at the same time I understand why they did it. Not setting a hard cap in the previous two DLCs allowed a limited progression, and people were locked out on features when the content that was specifically not licensed to them was showcased in an end-game feature. For that to work with the way that TTK exists, you would have to start parting out what people already paid for to turn around and give away. The level cap is key in this, because that is where the game begins this time around, of course. You can't just open 40 up for everyone, because to get there, that means that a lot of the gear and weapons are then available, and the actual end-game features, again. Other option that is put forward is around a "separate playlist", which I am also not a fan of, personally. That costs money to build, test, maintain, and release - funds that should be paying forward the path on Destiny and not living in its past. One thing is clear, though. This is the progression patter that the /franchise/ will likely follow. It means that people are either going to go along with it, walk away, or come back every year as these Legendary type of release rollouts come out, with the prior DLCs included.

  • Totally agree that things aren't going to change so everyone better either get used to it or stay away from Destiny altogether. But there are ways they can give people what they paid for and not have to cut so much out.
