So many religious people here at work not even willing to talk about this seriously, It's kinda annoying :/

Hahaha, gotta love the Jesus lovers, to each their own. If they're happy let them stay in their box.
-
Religion doesn't have anything to do with it >_>
-
Try telling these ppl. Every time I mention it they are like " WELL GAWD MADE EARTH AND LIFE ONLY EXIST ON EARTH" stuff.. I'm like really guys....
-
Lol. People like that are funny. I'm a Christian and I don't have a problem with there being life on other planets.
-
With the vastness of just our observable universe we can see. The odds of earth being the only planet with life is just unreasonably small. Even if it's just single celled organisms.
-
Well, what are the odds of life even arising in the first place? The conditions had to be pretty perfect for life to arise on Earth, and that can't just be a common occurrence for those conditions to line up as they have, can it? What is extraterrestrial life was hostile, and killed itself? What if we are incapable of perceiving them? What if there is extraterrestrial life, but we are the only lifeforms capable of intelligence? Too many variables, too many unknowns. There's still so much we're just not sure about the inorganic universe itself. Perhaps we're leading ourselves astray with visions of extraterrestrial life that could give us all the answers.
-
We need to free ourselves from the thought process of any life has to be exectally like life on earth. Or that live only come from the conditions that we need here on earth to have life. Heck I believe that there are non carbon based life forms out there as well.
-
You said that and my first thought went to this little article. http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2009/07/stephen-hawking-on-the-possibility-of-noncarbonbased-extraterrestrial-life.html

I'm Christian and have no idea why they wouldn't want to talk about it. I think this discovery is AMAZING!
-
Same man!!
-
What does religion have to do with it?
-
It's a bait comment. Ignore it.
-
Not bait. The amount of closed-minded people, religious fanatics or not, is extremely concerning to me.
-
It's not bait dumbass, every time I try and talk to someone about how this is amazing and opens the door to them possibly discovering life people start getting uncomfterable.
-
Typically comments like this are bait, no need to call names. Religion has absolutely nothing to do with this comment. Many non-religious people shrug off any possibility that life exists elsewhere. If it makes them uncomfortable, why would you continue talking about it? I would assume you probably feel the same when two guys dressed in white suits come to your door to talk to you about Jesus. I doubt you invite them in for coffee.
-
Actually I'm very open minded and I invite in anyone that wants to discuss something with me and tell me their point of views. What makes you think I continue to talk about it once mentioned? So far it's followed a pattern, I tell them about the announcment and then I sit there listening to them tell me about what the bible sais. I have yet to actually get into a serious conversation where I have gotten to say anything other then "guess what NASA has announced"
-
If you are honestly open to there point of view and that individual doesn't give you the same courtesy, that would be frustrating. But just because that is the response that you have gotten with some religious people, does not mean that will happen every time. Wouldn't that be stereotyping?
