The War Cult electrocuted their brains with misunderstood Vex Tech which caused shock induced hallucinations. Dead Orbit isnt a Back up plan. They will save themselves and only themselve, and flee into more oncoming Darkness with nowhere to fall back to. They will flee to their doom.

You say that we electrocuted our minds but as I've understood from an old FWC transcript I've found there was a ghost or some other non organic being that used the device.

Massive surges of electricity can damage non-organic forms as well.
