Yes, those games you mentioned are rather pointless.
Do you know why I have a Gaming Library? Do you know why its called a library? Because games are a medium, and they all serve a built-in purpose.
I find games that present a progression system, but then invalidate their own progression to be the pinnacle of human ignorance. A prime example of this was Generations on Titanfall. You spend all the time ranking yourself up, unlocking everything, only to then hit the reset button and start over from scratch. All for the sake of getting a new tag? Its the Call of Duty prestige nonsense, and its a mentality which Activision has fostered over the years.
If Destiny were an RPG, it would be thrown in the garbage for having such a horrible story.
If Destiny were an MMO, it would be compared to all other games in the genre and be found sorely lacking in all respects.
Destiny is an FPS, above all else, which takes elements from other genres to expand itself, and yet it doesn't actually capitalize on any of that. In the sense that this game is an FPS, though? It has a workable multiplayer. That's it. The PvE is meanwhile sculptured around a tireless grind in which you aren't actually working towards anything. Your goal in the PvE is to build yourself up so that you can get bored of it and then waste the rest of your life repeating the same thing over and over again until the next piece of paid DLC hits which you will then be expected to buy.
Honestly, with how much this game has cost already, would have MUCH rather they just make Destiny 2 instead of continuing to prolong this ridiculous Beta Test that is now going into its second year.
