No, that is the delusion. That is the dream you, myself and others wish were a reality. Destiny is not an MMO, in any sense. It pretends to be something it isn't. What you love is the potential of what it "could" be, but in all seriousness most likely never will achieve because... 1: Activision constantly meddling in its affairs. 2: Bungie for being unable to do what other developers have been successful with. 3: The community not being heavy handed enough to enforce changes. You can't tell a dog who just pissed all over your game that was left sitting out of its case on the floor "bad boy" while still giving it a doggy treat and a pat on the head for a reward. Even if Bungie wanted to do things that people want, Activision tells them no. Bungie looks to the community for enough negative feedback that can be used as ammo against the publisher to get them to back off and regain control, but then Activision see their profits and say "eh, who cares?" Bungie concedes, give up hope and turn into a mindless machine putting out whatever is next on the "schedule" for release. Community bitches about stuff, Bungie silently curses them out as their bosses tell the developers to shut up and get back to work. Harold Ryan proceeds to count his fat Christmas Bonus cause you just KNOW the Team Leads and big hunchos for Bungie are making bank. Furthermore, time played doesn't automatically equate to time well spent if your hard work was all for nothing. The problem is the difference of value. All the things that were "lost" that have spurred such an uproar obviously don't mean that much to you. So as far as you are concerned? No big deal. Does that mean everyone is the same as you? No, of course not. There's plenty of posts and comments on this forum that prove such. Fact of the matter is that people feel cheated because all of their hard work was invalidated. They weren't playing the game JUST to for the sake of wasting their time. Which brings me to your bit. You could argue that life is a waste of time because everyone eventually dies. If that were in fact true, then go ahead and light the nukes and get this party started. However, the fact of the matter is that this is not true. Humans are sentient lifeforms who are capable of understanding self worth and the value of a finite lifespan. Because of this, TIME is actually a very precious thing to most, especially once you hit a certain age for most folks. Sure its "alright" to goof around sometimes, but for the most part people want to be working towards a goal in what they are doing. The same is true for games. Now, those goals are generally different for everyone, but the truth of the matter is EVERYONE HAS A REASON. Its an absolute truth, a constant for all existence. Everything which exists has a purpose or needs a driving force behind it. If you lack drive/desire, then you are no different than a lifeless shell. In this case, as far we're concerned with Destiny, that goal has been the acquisition of weapons and armor all throughout Year 1. And it continues to be the center focus of the game in Year 2 with TTK. However, with Year 1 being made obsolete and "frozen in time" according to DeeJ, ALL OF THE PAST YEAR OF WORK AND TIME HAS BEEN TOTALLY WASTED. And because this is still a trend going into the next year, we can expect to see this happening again for Year 3 and so on. There is no longer a reason to grind. There is no longer a reason to hunt for gear. You get what you get and you're either happy with it or you're not. Will you repeat King's Fall 100 times JUST to get an arsenal of Raid Weapons and Armor so that come Year 3 you can use that same gear to replay King's Fall 200 times more? How about 300 times? 400? How many people do you think played Vault of Glass getting those weapons thinking they were going to be useful for more than just one year? How many people do you think wouldn't have spent nearly as much time playing as they did if they had known ahead of time that they were going to do this? Better question, if you had instant access to ALL the new weapons and armor, how many times would you replay this content? My answer? One and Done.
