There are 50 Calcified Fragments and a grimoire card worth 15 called "Calcified Fragments: Insight". Total 51 or 50 with a grimoire card for collecting them all.

Ok just think about this logically. The gun is a relic of Rasputin and has never seen or touched the dreadnaught. Also like smith said that it was obtained by finding relics on different planets, and then he described the ToM quest not as exactly fifty but the term "like 50"

there are 50 because there are five that come from the raid and they don't want to lock out players from the gun that cant run the raid so you only need 45 of the 50 to get the weapon.
