In the latest issue of Edge magazine, there is an interview with old community manager Urk.
He says that there is no 10 year plan for Destiny, and that the thought of there being a 10 year plan for Destiny is "comical."
What he does confirm is that Bungie has a 10 year partnership with Activision.
So what does this mean?
Destiny could very well end after only 3-5 years. But Activision will continue to publish whatever game follows Destiny for the remainder of that 10 year time frame.
That doesn't mean that Destiny couldn't last 10 years, but it's possible that Bungie could develop a new IP within that time.

Halo. 2001-?
-
Halo came out in 2001 (14 years ago dam that's scary!) and still going with a story Arc now being carried on by someone else. Same could happen with Destiny. As long as it continues to make money there will be releases in some for or another.
-
I feel like they're very focused on Destiny and that 10 years is plausible.
-
Maybe it will maybe it won't. It all depends on how much bungee enjoys making it and how much money it generates for Activision. If bungie are allowed to create new history and come up with fun and fresh ideas then they most likely will stay. In halo they had to work around a single hero so after awhile you run out of ideas and want to move on. In destiny there is no main hero other than you. You can add and remove all the sub heroes from the game when you want and bring them back too if you want. Destiny is so open ended that they can do whatever they want because there isn't 10 books on the lore behind destiny just the cards that give tidbits of past events. There is nothing saying that can't kill off a character or bring in an entirely new one you don't know about because destinys history is covered in mystery which I believe is half they don't have an idea for it and two they want to have surprises for everyone. As long as destiny has an active fan base and the developers enjoy playing destiny it will be here for a long time.
-
Well its not the 10 year thing is their contract with Activision.
-
Activision said they had an advertising budget set for Destiny for the next 10 years.
-
IMO, I think it's foolish to think that there will not be sequels. There's way to much money involved to not make a Destiny 2 and so on.
-
or it could last longer

Good.
